No, the items and quests will be added to any existing games. (I tested this on a 4 year old save)

if you have the 'Puter for it (not a laptop or similar gimped system) I'd recommend investing in a second harddrive to install the games to. though any mods installed pretty much go in your user documents on the C:/ drive
