I've experienced a curious problem with Dracula 5: I've downloaded the English Installer and the dialogs are in English, but texts (transcript, menu, in-game descriptions) are suddenly in German.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I live in Vienna and the Windows are in German, but the previously played Dracula 4 didn't have this issue...

I didn't find any language settings in game options, nor any setup in the game folder. While I would be able to play it in German, I don't want to if there is any possibility to play it in English instead.

Any suggestion?

Ok, so I've switched the names in Texts and Trophies folders from de to en and vice versa and now I have both in the game in English. Sorry, aber das ist wirklich doof :-P

First of all, sorry for the late answer - I was abroad without PC.

- Localize your installed game folder - e.g. C:\Games\Dracula5
- Start the game to discover in which language you have the game. Exit.
- Select the language in which you want to play the game - possibilities are English (en.xml), German (de.xml), French (fr), Italian (it), Spanish (es) and probably also Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Swedish and Polish - but it seems that not everything is translated.

Now you have to rename the apropriate files according to your preferences - if the game is in german and you want it in english, you have to rename the en files/folders to de files/folders and vice versa.

WHERE TO FIND THE FILES:

1) Menu and dialogs - Dracula5\Texts
2) Items in the inventory - Dracula5\Inventory\Objects
3) Trophies - Dracula5\TrophiesBrowser\Trophies - rename the FOLDERS (xml file is inside)

I hope it helps.

Thank you for your help. It worked.
The way Dracula 4 and 5 choses which language to use is a bit stupid but easy to handle.
In Dracula 4 the GOG version only has english subtitles and menus. Dracula 5 has also included German and other subtitles (even if it is not mentioned on the GOG page). To change the language you need to change your windows region settings using the control panel. It is a few clicks and I consider this to be a lot more easy than renaming all those folders. German subtitles for Dracula 4 exists but unfortunately not yet in the GOG release (I already PM'd the devs because they said that the GOG release should get those subs too and this was 2013).

The way the game(s) choses which language to use is as follows:
As long the language sepcific folders only have the name of one language ("en" or "de" or "fr" ect.) it does not matter what region you have selected in windows. As soon as there are multiple folders (one folder "en" another "de") the game will use the files contained in the folder according to the region settings. If ONE folder has the name of several countries and a "-" then the game will chose this folder for all the countrys the folder is named.

Example:
Folder containing english voices is also used in the German release - it would be named:
en-de

=> Change your region settings from eglish to german it does not matter.

Folder cotaining subtitles and specific menu screens
en
de

=> If you chose German region settings it will play with german subs if you chose english it will play in english

Knowing this you can build your only multi-language release with every voice subtitle combination you want.

If you ask me how I found out about it. I found some files on the Internet with German subtitles and I wanted to have German subtitles in the game. The way this "patch" was build it would simply overwrite the original files so it would ONLY be in german. Dracula 5 however already had multi-language and the folder structure was very similar. So I decided to play a bit with the settings and the folder names.

This probably comes a bit late, by the by the by sorry to basically necro this thread;

just found out a way to definitively force the game to display only the chosen language:

-start your game once, don't forget to set windows to 1920x1080 if you are running any higher resolution
- go to my documents\my games\dracula 5\ProfileX\
(X denotes the profile number)
-open the options.xml preferably in notepad++
-go to the line <!--<DebugLanguage value="en"/> (example values: en, fr, it, es, de, ru, pl ...) -->
-press ctrl+q
-delete the bit (example values: en, fr, it, es, de, ru, pl ...) -->
-alternatively edit the line to <DebugLanguage value="en" />
-save the file, start the game, robert is your uncle

replace "en" with your chosen language code, if you desire to play in any other language
