Hey guys, i've been enjoying the game so far but i believe i've run into a bug.
Spoliers follow so read at your own risk.

I've been killed by the Axeman in the twilight lounge so i thought i should not have gone there yet can pressed continue, after which i went elsewhere and solved a bunch of puzzles... Now it's apparent i have to go there, but i cannot fight back, as soon as i enter the Twilight lounge the screen turns black and i hear two axe chops, after which Joe will appear in the next room and the Axeman delivers one final chop, and game over.

I can freeze the game by putting moving my mouse to the top of the screen, so the inventory kinda works.. except it does not appear. It just stays invisible.

Is this a common bug? anything that can be done with it? Or am i supposed to do something else completely?

That's odd as I just went through the game and managed to kill the Axeman quite easily and the screen didn't go black for me. Are you using the reloaded shotgun? (I played through the entire game on my Windows 7 64 bit system at home btw.)

I actually recall seeing this same complaint on a forum thread somewhere else. There wasn't a solution posted there, but do you have the shotgun+shells yet? If so, you need to put the shells into the shotgun, and you can then use the shotgun to kill the axeman.

Also, where are you storywise? You don't need to go into the lounged until you've killed all 4 memories.

Yeah, you CAN kill him earlier, but you don't HAVE to. I didn't even see the Axeman in the lounge until I had killed 3 memories.

I think he appears once you mess with the corpse in the basement.
I know there is \ was a bug where after being killed by the Axeman he'll wait for you at the edge of the screen and kill you again instantly if you don't move fast enough. That black screen issue... I think m0ds could know some workaround.

Yep it was exactly this. turns black, but the axe chops indicate that he's at the edge of the screen.
I ended up starting the game over and since i already knew what to do breezed through it.

I don't know if i still have the save, i may have overwritten it.. But i can check.
EDIT: I do in fact have the save file, in case you still want it.

Yeah he's easy to kill, if it's possible to access the inventory, but in that case it's impossible as it's invisibile.
It is possible to walk during the last chop.. but you still can't get away.

It is possible to walk during the last chop.. but you still can't get away.
No need if you passed that part :)
I noticed Screen7 about the problem. Downfall will probably get remade after third game in the series release.

Thanks, I'm sorry you had a problem - unfortunately there's not a lot (nothing in fact) we can do about any errors/quirks in Downfall :( The game source files no longer exist to modify/fix anything. Screen 7 is re-publishing it purely by customer demand. All we can do is hope we get enough votes on Greenlight to spur on a possible remake of Downfall. Hopefully others can help you with a save game file if needed.

Thanks for everyone's imput, i might look into the but and whether there's something that can be done about it so that people don't have to replay the game in the future.

Cause this is in fact a pretty awesome game, aside form the little quirks it has.

Great, now I feel bad for not liking Downfall very much.
If someone needs me, I think I'm going to have some tea with her highness. You know which highness I mean. I hope she' not in her.. er... rotten mood today.

I told it numerous times - it has great sentimental value for me but technically it's not as great as The Cat Lady ;)
Still, there are hopes for a remake so it's all good :)

Well... I have a problem with someone whose jaw can fall of their face any second and fall into the teacup. Not necessary THAT Teacup or any specifivc teacup in particular.
I mean, it's not very... uh... polite to break apart. Or spoil the tea time by dipping parts of your body into the tea. It's just disgusting. *shudder*
Eeeew....

So, I'd rather have her TCL-Incarnation and not... the other one.
