So a dude by the name of JPL created a little tool so smash all your doom wads into one file:

How does this work with new maps though? Does this serve as a one-package replacement for all the WADs, or should we still keep them around?

Some music tracks and textures get renamed, so it should not work with all custom maps, but I assume that some Doom 1 maps work without problems. Never under any circumstances remove and/or modify the original wads!
The idea is to merge together all the official levels, but anything else will not be included.

Though if you tinker with its data file you could add more stuff to it. As long as you don't run into incompatibilities (e.g. mods such as Back to Saturn X or Ancient Aliens which feature their own palette, making them incompatible with the original graphics).
Ah, I see. So this is basically World of Xeen or Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Doom style. :P

From the sound of it I'm guessing something like Alien Vendetta or 1994 Tune-Up would fit in theory.
It's a good mod, but I am not a fan of the Master Levels using Doom II's first level music for each map.

Good point. I'm not sure if that's supposed to be a bug or just a limitation.
It's neither a bug nor a limitation, it's a design decision. JPL didn't want to make creative decision as for which music track they should have, so he left them with the default track for the map slot they use.

You'll notice that most of them are on the MAP01 slot.

Note that you can change that easily if you want, it's just a matter of editing the combined pk3's mapinfo.
