Damn it all! Just release it already!

Seriously though... I am excited for this.

https://www.romerogames.ie/sigil/

UPDATE May 11, 2019: SIGIL has been done for quite a while at this point. There were two production issues at Limited Run -- the head and the disk. The head is now heading through production.

All units are crafted and finished by an individual artist. The second is the disk which is expected in shortly. There was also an issue with that. These are beyond the control of Romero Games, and we desperately wish that we could release it right now. We regret the delay, and have expressed your frustration to Limited Run.

We have also asked them to regularly update people who have purchased the game as this is also beyond the control of Romero Games. They have that list.

We’re sorry. We want SIGIL in your hands more than you know. We have to wait until Beast Box players get it before we release the free version. For their part, Limited Run isn’t happy with the delays either, and looks forward to releasing the game.

The Limited Run team has been doing everything it can to resolve the delays and are as frustrated as we are. We all want the game in our hands. The delays are due to making these items higher quality, because we and Limited Run believe you deserve the best possible product. They could have accepted earlier revisions and shipped an inferior product, but we both believe that you deserve better.

Limited Run will be in contact with an email update soon - until then, thanks for your patience!

Sigil is out now for download.
Have fun.
I like it! Not his best work IMO, but that's mostly personal taste. There were a couple of parts that I ended up hating but thankfully those were very few. Not a bad round of nine maps, though I would've hoped the secret map would have nazis stewing in hellfire for fun. A mostly well made and different feeling Hell episode to the rest of Doom.

Also Buckethead can really crank out some MIDI, who knew?

The MIDI soundtrack is by James Paddock. The alternative MP3 soundtrack (for those who pay for it) is by Buckethead.

Ah, gotcha. In that case Paddock made some really great stuff for this one.
i just found out about this expansion from a YT channel called Civvie 11. is this going to be released on GoG as well or bundled in with their Doom 1/2 item at some point?

watching Civvies gameplay and his review of it right now. the midi soundtrack is amazing.

I wouldn't expect to see it released with the GOG version, or on Steam for that matter. It's not by id/Bethesda, you see, it was something that Romero released on his own. You can get it for free from his website but it is really an unofficial expansion episode.

You play it as any other WAD made by anyone else now that it's out. Honestly it wouldn't gain anything by being on GOG and it would actually be pretty weird if it was.

If you're fretting about it being gone one day, don't. If it's not on Doomworld's /idgames/ already it probably will be at some point, and I believe it's already in the places where Doomseeker/Dooom Explorer/ZDaemon auto-download content for multiplayer (don't quote me on that, I see that plenty have been playing Co-Op with Sigil and that usually means someone already uploaded it).

It's a mod, not a game. Dragging it (and the compat file I think) onto ZDoom or GZDoom to launch it should work.

Alternatively, try something like Doom Explorer or ZDL.

Heh. I won't spoil the fun and still wait for my box to arrive first. :)))

For ZDoom and GZDoom you only need SIGIL.wad. The SIGIL_COMPAT.wad file is for vanilla Doom and non-limit removing ports. You don't use both of them, just one or the other depending on the port you are using to play the game.

Note that SIGIL.wad will put the new levels as Episode 5, but the SIGIL_COMPAT.wad will put them as an Episode 3 replacement. This is why the paid release music wad is also present twice - SIGIL_SHREDS.wad for the music as Episode 5 tracks and SIGIL_SHREDS_COMPAT.wad with the music as Episode 3 tracks. Again, you use one or the other depending on which SIGIL wad you are using. The music wads are optional and are not present in the free download. They provide the Buckethead MP3 files for the music. Without them you get the SIGIL MIDI music instead.
I made a quick DeHackEd fix in case if someone wants to run Sigil with the vanilla DOS engine.

1. Download and unpack the fixed patch
2. Get DeHackEd v3.1
3. Install DeHackEd and configure correct pathnames in DEHACKED.INI
4. Load siglcomp.deh into your doom.exe with DeHackEd. (dehacked.exe -load siglcomp.deh)
5. Rename your sigil_comp.wad to something DOS-compatible, siglcomp.wad for example.
6. Run your game with doom.exe -file siglcomp.wad command.

Also I'd recommend to use limit-removing hacked version of doom.exe. Refer to this message for details.

Of course everything should be ran in the DosBox or on a real DOS-compatible hardware.
Automap level names were shortened in the fixed patch because of lack of space in the original executable.

--- Update ---

Fixed one stupid typo in the siglcomp.deh, updated the download link.
Also tried to run this setup myself and need to mention that hacked executable of DOOM+ is actually REQUIRED. Otherwise game will bomb out even on the first map with visplane overflow.

Just drop sygil wad on zdoom exe it says.
I run it with Zdoom on my steam 3 BFG and had to do nothing special except above. Drop Sygil Wad on Zdoom.exe

Actually, the COMPAT files are for source ports that don't support the Zscript necessary to create additional episodes. The levels themselves are still the same so they will crash on unhacked vanilla and non-limit-removing source ports (including ChocolateDoom).

SIGIL_SHREDS_COMPAT.wad also won't work on source ports that don't support MP3-audio.
