xsvtoys: What am I missing? These are supposed to be new patches for Doom (original 1993 or more specifically The Ultimate Doom) ) and Doom II. What does Doom Eternal have to do with it? That's something entirely different. Why are the patches available for a bunch of consoles and for PC on Steam, but not for those who purchased The Ultimate Doom and Doom II on GOG? Were those purchases not legitimate licenses bought and paid for? I'm failing to see why we should be left out.
Heck I still have the original WADs for Doom and Doom II from when they first came out, as I bought them back then and carried them forward from the original floppies all these years. But I bought them again on GOG anyway to support them.. Now I am being hung out to dry for new "free" updates.
In the end I suppose it doesn't matter much as there is most of it if not all of it is available on GZDoom and other ports and add-ons. But it would be nice to experiment with these new official add-ons. Like everyone else gets to do....
If you want to be in the club, I guess you have to buy Ultimate Doom and Doom II again for $4.99 each from Bethesda. OR, from Steam. Which I prefer to avoid whenever possible.
Be thankful we have the originals, the unity update has these ugly green crosses replacing the red ones in the dos version, personally you are better off with GZDoom, the GOG versions are still legitimate,
