Why you don't like Brutal Doom? It seems really fun, the fatalities and all.
Three reasons, these are just my opinion and you shouldn't mind them if you like it:
1. It doesn't work well with a lot of mods/WADs because of the combination of shoddy construction methods (this has nothing to do with being good or bad, it's just really ugly under the hood) and how much it actually changes around. The former has also resulted in the most recent GZDoom release having slight problems with it (as of now it just complains about an error, but later on who knows), and previous fallouts with some Doom modding sites due to BD fanbase storming around and getting into fights over compatibility patches for a lot of things (not the author's fault mind you, it's all drama between groups).
2. I find things a little slapdash at times, since it takes a lot of content without much of an effort to make it consistent. Sure a lot of mods take images or sounds from other sources (DoomRL Arsenal's myriad of weapons for instance), but there's usually a bit more effort put into integration and it tries to feel like it's from the same thing at least. There are other mods/WADs that suffer from this but it's not usually that common.
3. Glory kills that fit in better with Doom itself are in things like Metadoom IMO. Punch it, done. Doom isn't a game that's meant to be too flashy to me. Sure, nice sprite art/really pretty effects/puzzles/inventory or stat management is one thing, but taking a lot of time just to kill one enemy that isn't big just has me wanting to fast forward the action.
