It took GOG five years, to give us the original Doom 3, since its release of the BFG edition in January 2018. Doom 3 itself will actually turn 19 years in 2023 and now we all have finally the chance to play it in its original glory. I have just played it once in its original state, back in 2011, and only started playing it again in 2018, when GOG got its hands on the BFG edition. As much as I have loved it, I was always hating the fact that the BFG edition is a little zoomed in, so you see less of your gun, which is especially annoying for the BFG, since the information on its HUD is important, so that you won't accidentally overcharge it, which can happen quickly, killing you instantly. Alright, it is just a minor problem, but being now able to have the original experience makes me extremely excited.
I will finally playtest it today and I am already wondering if the original is truly much darker than the BFG edition, as so many veteran Doom 3 players have always stated, because to me the BFG edition was actually dark enough, yet, as I have just written, so many have complained that the lightning in the BFG edition is way brighter, than in the vanilla version. Knowing that some things have even received a big cut in the BFG edition, like a fight in Hell in the Resurrection Of Evil expansion, makes me even more excited to experience Doom 3 in the way Id Software actually wanted it to be.
Anyway, my big thanks goes to GOG and I hope that one day you guys will be allowed by Blizzard to finally give us Diablo 2 as well, because then my gaming life will be complete! :-) Thank you so much again!
