Thanks!
The BFG bug in V20 appears to be fixed when running the GOG DOOM wad. I don't know if it's still present in classic mode though, as that's when I encountered it in the BFG Edition wad.

EDIT: also, rocket jumping no longer works in Version 20 so I have to make a tricky crouch-jump to the water box in E3M6 instead of rocket jumping from standing in the pool. I just get drenched when I try that and get to see a nice splashed wall effect.

Hmm . I'm unable to finish the Command Control level since a red bar is blocking my way at the exit and it ask for a red key .
I hadn't really been trying a lot of mods for Doom, so I was blown away by Brutal Doom when it came out. Wasn't sure why everyone was so negative about it.

I had a number of complaints about it... certain aspects didn't feel very... 'Doomey'. Eventually I found out that Brutal Doom was essentially copying a lot of elements from other games. Beautiful Doom in particular. In fact I think Beautiful Doom is the perfect enhancement for Doom. No goofy finishers but all the polish.

That said if people do like the over the top elements of Brutal Doom... all the power to them. I understand now the backlash. Brutal Doom copies a lot of other mods then brings in a bunch of new people who claim its the way Doom was meant to be played.

By the way I found this website that was bashing Brutal Doom while looking up why people were so negative about it.

6 great Doom mods not called Brutal Doom.

Reelism... mind blowing amazing. Its like the modder(s) took every cool 90s gaming thing and stuffed into one game. Every 'wave' it roles the dice determining what weapons, enemies and crazy effects come into play. From just about every 90s shooter making an appearance to games completely unrelated to shooters like Capcom and X-Com alien invasions... mod is just pure awesome!

GreasyDogMeat:
Of what I can understand a lot of the "hate" for Brutal Doom is actually for BD's creator "Sergeant Mark IV" & the actions he apparently did on some forums While I have been "Dooming" since 96 around the time BD came on the scene IIRC I was a Doomsday\Jgame snob so I never payed attention at the time. So for me I only payed attention after Doom came here & I wanted to give another port a try, So I don't know much about the situation. Besides Project Brutality is more to my liking anyways though I am waiting for the upcoming "BD starter pack" that should be available soon

Last but not least thanks for the Reelism suggestion, going to try it out in a moment

Yes, the red key should be located inside the "maze" section of the level behind the blue door, I am playing the Doom with Maps of Chaos addon and I am not sure if this is reason why is those bars and red key present in the level, if I remember correctly, in vanilla Doom there was only blue and yellow key.

Project Brutality November/December Update/Hotfix:

I just tried Brutal Doom / Project Brutality.

My thoughts:
AWESOME!

I enjoyed both versions a LOT more than the original game (which is really saying something). I like Doom as much as Quake now (and dare I say maybe a little bit more).

I have dreamed of an over the top shooter like this for decades.

It includes two things I think should be in EVERY fps:
1. Melee attack while holding a weapon (the kick)
2. Grenades!

Magmarock: I am surprised there's no sticky here for brutal Doom. Maybe this one can be.

Brutal Doom is my favourite mod and I would like to show you how to it to work the GOG version of Doom.

1. Download GZDoom http://www.osnanet.de/c.oelckers/gzdoom/download.html and extract it.

2. Download both brutal Doom and Metal Doom and extract the contents http://www.moddb.com/mods/brutal-doom/downloads/brutal-doom-version-20

http://www.moddb.com/mods/brutal-doom/downloads/doom-metal-soundtrack-mod-volume-4

3. Start DZDoom to create a local .ini file.

4. You'll need both the Brutal Doom and Metal Doom .pk3 to the GZDoom .ini file under the [Doom.Autoload]

There are two methods of doing this.

Typing in the address of the .pk3 files or adding the files to the GZDoom directory and just typing path=.

Here's an example of method one
[Doom.Autoload]
path=C:\Address\of\brutalv20.pk3
path=C:\Address\of\DoomMetalVol4.wad

Here's what you type if the .pk3 files are in the dirctory
[Doom.Autoload]
path=brutalv20.pk3
path=DoomMetalVol4.wad

5. Next GZDoom will have to find the Doom.wad file. It should be in C:\GOG Games\DOOM

Doom II C:\GOG Games\DOOM 2\doom2

Final Doom TNT C:\GOG Games\Final DOOM\TNT

Final Doom Plutonia C:\GOG Games\Final DOOM\Plutonia

The easiest way to make GZDoom find these files is to simply copy them into the directory, but you can also add their address to the .ini file if you want.
If you want to add them to the .ini instead of copying them follow this example
[IWADSearch.Directories]
path=C:\GOG Games\DOOM
path=C:\GOG Games\DOOM 2\doom2
path=C:\GOG Games\Final DOOM\Plutonia
path=C:\GOG Games\Final DOOM\TNT

That's it, I hope this was helpful and let me know what you think of the Brutal Doom mod.
Thank you sir!

hudfreegamer: I just tried Brutal Doom / Project Brutality.
There's also Brutal Doom Johnny Edition (BDJ). It makes some gameplay changes to the Brutal Doom functions so it is a little bit different whilst still being Brutal Doom.

I have all three installed and I am switching between them depending on how I'm feeling. Project Brutality I only started a couple of weeks ago.
I watched a few videos of Brutal Doom Johnny Edition. It looks interesting. I'll check it out.
A couple days ago, I tried Brutal Doom to finally see what is all the fuss about it. Well, I'm not sure if I like it or not. I like the visuals, I dislike the weapons, I like the added gore, I dislike the finishing moves (a bad move in my opinion) and so on. I'm surprised that the Doom engine is capable of so much editing but I think that Brutal has so many new stuff that it isn't "Doom" anymore.

That being said, I also tried Beautiful Doom and that's the way to go for me. Anyway, I'll play Brutal Doom all the way since it offers a new experience, but if I were to rate it, I wouldn't rate it so high that others seem to do.

BTW, thanks for the guide! :)

Well, in the standard Brutal Doom, the finishing moves are optional in that they only happen when you've picked up a Berserker pack and even then only if you use Rip and Tear mode (the alternative being Smash mode which is the normal Berserk punch mode from vanilla Doom). Only playing Brutal Doom with guns, I never see the executions.

Brutal Doom Johnny (BDJ) makes it so that you can quick melee (rather than having to switch to fists) so that you can finish off enemies with quick melee and sometimes get an execution (which is on a percentage chance rather than every time you melee an enemy to death). Even so, there is an alternative version, Smooth Doom Johnny, which is BDJ but without the executions. Executions in BDJ do serve a purpose, however, in that you get bonuses depending on the enemy type - health, armour, ammo, grenades, etc.

As an aside, BDJ removed the taunt keys from Brutal Doom as the author considered the insults that they made Doom Guy say were unnecessary, and I'm in agreement with this (again, I never use the taunt keys in standard Brutal Doom).

Can't say I've tried Smooth Doom myself, but it could be another alternative.
