Hello,

I started Inferno and I find myself starved for ammunition. Is that how the episode is supposed to be or do I just suck? I'm playing Brutal Doom if that makes a difference.

Inferno was a bit light on ammo early on in vanilla doom. In BD, it's still relatively light, but because of the way the mod gives that limited ammo more stopping power, you'll be able to do a lot more with it. You shouldn't regularly be running completely dry after the 2nd-3rd level, iirc. What level are you currently on?

Thanks for the reply! I'm at Slough of Despair. I got zerged by a swarm of lost souls.

Ugh, I feel your frustration. The ammo shortage is easily at its worst in that damn level. Only advice I can give is to pick ignore as many baddies as possible until you can make it to the chain gun, then use it to go hunting through the central maze for shotgun ammo. You'll want to save that ammo for the Lost Souls whenever possible. Iirc, there is also at least one secret that gives access to a decent gun and ammo.
Thanks for the advice. I followed your tips and got through the level with ammo left over and 200 health.
It's hell, not a former base, it makes sense there's less human supplies around. That said, you just need to adapt your tactics a bit. The best way to conserve ammo in Doom is to use infighting: maneuver so that monsters are aligned so when one attacks it hits another. Every demon killed by another demon is that much ammo saved! Maneuvering around the monsters is your first line of defense! Lost souls in particular are easy to dodge if you see them coming, and they're really infight-prone when in groups.

Don't waste ammo. Brutal Doom encourages ammo wastage so as to be more "brutal", but don't waste ammo on monsters that are already dying.
That level's interesting. I recently played through Doom 1 & 2 the first time, myself, and while I easily got through most of the earlier two episodes without much trouble, that level at first seemed impossible to me. It's the first time I really saw a Doom level as a big puzzle, because some fights have to be taken in a specific order so as to not run out of ammo, as well as using the powerups as best as possible, etc.

Glad you got through it, I think after that level ammo wasn't a big concern anymore, for me. Have fun!
