A hotfix is about to be rolled out.
Use the updater.exe to get it.

May 22 Hotfix (78176):

Snow shows up on the ground again
Koalefant doesn't disappear forever if you visit the caves
Fix for corrupt save issue in "Two Worlds"
Bees go home in winter
Pickables don't regrow in winter
Fix for empty birdcage crashes
Fix for slurtlehole quake and death crash
Fix for translations on linux/osx

updater.exe ? you mean the file on GOG, below the actual game file? Sadly it doesn't update to caves. I need a stand-alone updater.. stupid that the game's official website doesn't offer one. What kind of crap is that?
