So DD still has an issue where sound effects sometimes come out as static.
This seems to be related to having more than 1 CPU core, and we all do these days.

In the past i would just run the game, TAB out, adjust affinity in the task manager and TAB back into the game.
However for some reason it doesnt work anymore. When i try to TAB back into the game, it just crashes.

Workaround 1:
- create a txt file in your DD directory and name it "Divine Divinity.bat"
- open file in a text editor.
- Enter "cmd.exe /c start "Process Monitor" /affinity 1 "G:\GOG Games\Divine Divinity\Div.exe"
- Adjust the game's path at the end to fit your installation.
- Use the bat/ch file to run the game and the CPU affinity should be preset to your first available CPU core only.

Workaround 2: (Thanks Waltorious / Nalkoden)
- Adjust Windows Sound Device settings to DVD Quality.

Workaround 3: (Thanks Raze_Larian)
- Rightclick Div.exe and go to properties.
- Enable Win98 / ME compatibility mode.

Hatman: So DD still has an issue where sound effects sometimes come out as static.
I had this problem, but I THINK that when I downloaded and installed the latest version of the game from GOG (I had originally used an old, archived installer) it fixed the issue. It certainly fixed a problem with some of the music not playing, and it added sunrises and sunsets... but I can't quite recall if it fixed the occasional static bursts I was getting. Can someone confirm?

I remember being confused by this because it wasn't obvious that GOG had updated the installer, which is why I didn't re-download before playing. But they actually had.

OK, poked around a bit and some others suggest that changing the sound quality setting in Windows can fix the issue, so that might be another option:

Running the game in Win 9x compatibility mode can also help, as that will get Windows to limit it to a single core (right click the div.exe executable in the install folder and select Properties, then switch to the Compatibility tab to set that option to a Win 98 / ME mode).

I forgot about that. When i enable Win98/ME comp mode the game wont even start. Running Win 7 x64 ... *shrug*
