Raze_Larian: It is a little bit better if you don't need high resolution support, though.

If I was going to start a new game now, with my current monitor, I'd be inclined to just stick to the disk version (but would go with the download version because of questions / topics like this).
There can not be a better person to ask. Thx a lot.
I will stick to Retail copy and for sure pick GOG in future with a hope that Larian will listen to the fans and solve these pending issues.

Raze_Larian: No patch plans have been confirmed, and even the hypothetical possibility of an update has not been mention in some time (Larian said they would look into the outstanding issues after the initial Steam release).

I can ask if there is any chance of releasing the source code. Larian said some time ago that they couldn't release modding tools for DD due to their use of several third party proprietary programs that they couldn't redistribute. I don't know if similar issues exist for the game engine...
Hi Raze, do you found already a good situation to drop this question on the larian devs? ;)
I've asked (emailed last Sunday), but have not gotten a response yet. Either they are still mulling over the possibility, or the lack of response is a response...

Thanks for your initative... now let's wait and hope for the best :)
Hey Raze,

Is True shot working on the current GOG version of the game ?

And what about the patched 1.34 retail version of the game ?

Thx a lot :)
True Shot is broken in the current GOG version of the game (see here), as well as the updated original disk version (1.0034). It was fixed in the original download version (1.004), but there was a new bug (certain NPCs could spin in place and not be interacted with). The screwup with the source code happened before the 1.005 update that fixed that bug, and it was not re-fixed when the higher resolution support was redone (1.006).
This thread is really depressing. Divine Divinity is really a great game and it's the game I had the most fun with last year, but unless Larian either patches it properly or releases the source code we will forever be stuck with two versions, each missing features from the other :(
Divine Divinity is a great game but I don't see any reason to use modern digital versions instead of retail release. Except one very questionable feature of higher resolution support which retail release not officially support there's nothing new in today's digital releases besides resurrection of long forgotten bugs. Really. And do not forget that retail DD release additionally supports Glide.
True Shot is indeed broken in all releases but there are better skills to pick anyway IMO.

Forgive me if i'm asking a question that may have already been cleared up as this version stuff is confusing, but are you guys saying that the newest GOG version of Divine Divinity (the recent anthology version with HD support that's now on GOG) is missing bug fixes that were in the older pre-anthology GOG version?
In terms of bug fixes, the current version and the previous version are almost identical. The main differences overall are a slightly better configuration tool and multi-language support in the current version (and dropped support for Win9x).

The original GOG release (1.004) was essentially the disk version with higher resolution support and a few bug fixes and changes, but with a new serious bug added. In fixing the new bug, at some point some of the code reverted to an earlier version, and some of the bug fixes in 1.004 and earlier disk patches were lost for the 1.005 release, which was the version on GOG for quite awhile. The high resolution support had to be redone for the Steam / anthology release (1.006), as the code wasn't properly backed up (the disk labelled as the download version backup had the download binaries but disk version code).

FWIW I played half my first game in the original disk release, and didn't run into any serious problems (the issue I installed the hotfix (1.0032) for is fixed in the download version).

Ah okay, so no bug fixes were lost in going from 1.005 to 1.006 if I understand correctly.
wow, this thread is confusing as heck. I wanted to try Divine Divnity but I'm totally unsure of whats best to buy from whom.
Retail version
- limited to 640x480, 800x600 or 1024x768 (the game itself can work in other than supported resolutions, but opening the main map can cause a crash, the frequency of which is system and resolution dependent)
+ full music score
+ slightly more bug fixes (I didn't have any serious issues playing the unpatched original disk version)
+ Glide support (in addition to Direct3D or Software rendering, which are the only 2 options with the download version)

Download version
+ widescreen and higher resolution support
- music issues seem to be relatively common - FIXED in 1.0062 (see here)
- slightly less bug fixes (relatively minor, IMNSHO, or there are alternate workarounds if encountered)
* Win98 support dropped, menu bar at bottom of screen can no longer be minimized to just 3 lines (not really an issue playing at higher resolutions, and it just caused problems with people right clicking the bar by accident and not knowing how to restore it).
