Larian pretty much shafted their original supporters when they brought out the 'pay to patch' version of DD... So some kind soul put together the updated files in an unofficial patch.

Have fun.

To be fair to Larian, they didn't actually do it on purpose, they actually somehow lost the masters for both GOG versions, along with all the changes they made. This is an excellent link, though, for folks who have the disk version.

Maybe so, and I don't know how true that actually is, but they said original buyers weren't getting it anyway.
The part about losing the masters for 1.005 is true, at least that's what Lar (head of Larian) said in an update on the official forum. But yeah, it's also true that they never planned a separate patch for retail buyers.

I'm going to try this. I'd be interested to see if it fixes the music problem.

I hope so, that would be nice. :)
This patch kills the changes made by 1.33/1.34 patches. All quest errors appear again as in 1.29 version (prior to 1.31 hotfix). Beware!

I noticed that the "region.00X" files in the patch are older than the prexisting ones. It seems highly unlikely that an update would deliberately overwrite newer files with older ones. So it might be better not to copy those particular files.
The problem lies not only in these files. Main game executable (div.exe) v1.005 is not using dlg.v2 and startup.v2 folders. Moreover a few files in dat folder are reverted back to the previous (v1.0029A) game version by this patch...
Looks like this patch (and the entire GoG released version) introduces some changes compared to the original retail v1.0029A game release:

General:
- Feature: Allow more resolutions
- Feature: Recreated config tool
- Fixed numerous crashes and freezes
- Fixed: encumbrance could make items disappear
- Feature: Tooltips of damage stats on stat screen improved

Skills:
- Fixed: Spellbooks no longer ignore level requirements
- Fixed: All weapon expertise skills give percentile bonuses instead of static bonuses
- Fixed: True Sight damage is now actually used
- Fixed: Bow and crossbow expertise bonuses are now actually used
- Fixed: Divine Eye removes the fog of war
- Fixed: Deadly Gift's Scorpion Trap is less powerful
- Fixed: Resurrected enemies die after region swap

But completely ignores all the changes made by 1.33/1.34 official game patches. It is no good.

P.S. List of bugfixes addressed in official 1.31, 1.32 hotfixes and 1.33, 1.34 official game patches: http://www.larian.com/Site/english/divinity/english.html

Do you think it would be possible to just copy the files that would allow higher resolutions, while still keeping the 1.33/1.34 changes intact? That's all I really want.
You can try the following (do it at Your own risk, I do not carry any responsibility for any consequences of its use):
1. Download official game patch 1.34: http://www.larian.com/Site/fix/DivPatch_English.exe
2. Open the official game patch in WinRAR and extract its contents to the game folder overwriting existing files (yes, the patch itself represents an usual self-extracting rar archive).
3. Go to 'main' subfolder in the game folder and remove 'startup' folder. Then rename 'startup.v2' folder to 'startup'.
4. Go to 'localizations\english\dlg.v2' subfolder and copy all files from here to 'localizations\english' (..) overwriting existing files.
5. Open the DD_1.005A.zip archive in WinRAR and extract ONLY following 4 files: 'div.exe', 'DivDialogSystem.dll', 'Osiris.dll' and 'slash1.dll' to the game folder overwriting existing files. *DO NOT* extract the entire archive!
6. Launch the game and see if it works. But sadly You need to start new game in order the changes to take effect...

P.S. I am personally using 1.0033A game version but this version utilizes Safedisc v2.90.040 copy protection and I need to keep the cloned CD3 image (made from my original retail CD) mounted in order to launch the game.

Thank you, this worked quite perfectly. High resolutions w/ no map crash, preserving 1.34 changes.

BUT that the music transitions are removed again. I hear the same two songs everywhere I go where in v1.34 I hear about 15 different pieces of music (with exact same savegame). Must be some problem in one of the four files you mentioned, since those were the only things that changed.

Ultimately, I'm sick of messing around with the GoG version of this game. It's just a bad release. I'm just sticking with retail v1.34. You can still use high resolutions with retail 1.34 (just not the world map), and the bugs "fixed" with v1.5 are not worth all the new ones introduced. I'm out.

Did you use this patch to patch the gog version? This is for the retail version ONLY.

As far as I know the gog version is what the retail version, plus this patch, is supposedto be.

The gog version is already the 1.5 release. (I think :o)

Yes of course. I've had the retail version for almost a decade now. Patching the GoG version with this patch would be pointless since it's all the same files. :)

My idea was to use this patch to just copy the "good stuff" like hi-res support from the GoG version (which I also own, installed in a separate folder of course) into the retail install, without bringing over the "bad stuff," like plot bugs and the bugged music transitions.

As I said, this idea was only partly successful.

But really, I'm not going to belabor the issue anymore, I got years of enjoyment out of this game, and I'm pretty much satisfied with putting it on the shelf, even if the GoG release made it end on a bit of a sour note.

The patch works fine with the gog version (just replace div.exe and rename "osirisDLL.dll" to "osiris.dll"), no scorpion bug, no crossbow bug and so on... Unfortunately, once at Verdistis > Crash to desktop.

Edit : After test, it's a problem of save compatibility, if i start a new game with the "unofficial 1.005A", there is no crash at Verdistis.

Well, I'm sure it would work fine with the GOG version, after all, it was created from the GOG version.

This patch is made to be applied to the retail disc version of the game.

Users should not be applying the patch from this topic to their digital edition of Divine Divinity, for the reason stated above, and also because DD has been updated on GOG since then to fix a bug (the music bug).
