HereForTheBeer: Don't sweat storing stuff. You can drop things just about anywhere and they'll remain undisturbed. Shoulda seen the huge arms and armor tornado field I left in the starting town; probably upwards of 200 items laying on the ground. I put it conveniently close to a building - that not long into the game becomes unoccupied - in the southern part of town, where I could then sleep if necessary. Anyway, that's where I dumped my stone for quite a while.
Even better is to pick a spot that has a bed (or your straw bed) and is near a teleporter. Ise the stone to return to your bed, drop off the junk, sleep a while, load up with junk, sell the junk to buy potions or whatever it is you may need, teleport back to your stone, and then use the stone to go back to whatever area you were hacking and slashing your way through.
Ditto getting level 1 Repair. That's all you need to repair stuff on the fly, but higher skill level will you let sell items for more money since you'll repair items to a higher state.
Speaking of repairing items. I went ahead and got one point in repair. I chose the skill, left clicked, got an anvail cursor, highlighted a broken item, right clicked and walla, no go, it didn't fix it. Again what am I doing wrong? Thanks for all the help here, making the game much more enjoyable. I use allot of walkthroughs when I play my slew of CRPG's, but I,m using them very little for this one. Man is it tough. Still, I'm enjoying myself. It seems worth the money that I paid for here on GOG.
Also, while I have someones attention, I dropped 1,000 gp's down the wishing well and got myself a skeleton warrior ally. I thought I read somewhere that you can use your mages restoration spell to heal them, again it doesn't work for me. I appreciate any feedback I could get on these subjects.
