OK, I guess it's not possible to defeat this thing and one is supposed to avoid it or something? Read a lot of walkthroughs etc and it appears that they are dated. Teleportation only works as far as I can tell with grabbing objects, some say lure into poison and explode (that'd work if it could be done about 20 times). Supposedly it moves slow - right! teleports on top of a character and kills them as soon as the battle begins. Teleports over the poison clouds. teleports into the small rooms. I like a challenge but apparently this was designed to be unbeatable at default difficulty. Exploding arrow in poison cloud causes about 10% damage at most. No, I'm not using ice shards :)

There's likely a trick but apparently nobody is saying because all the forums are just plain wrong about this guy. I suspect it was too easy in the past so the latest version has made it so old methods are useless. OK, I don't mind the spoiler here - my hair is already grey due to age so I think I'll just melt or something if I keep trying and failing. Alternately, since this is my first playthrough, I might just start over even though I am at level six. Perhaps fine tuning money making would make it so I had better armor or something and I likely made a mistake by ticking off the old source hunter in the inn and the healer in the library - neither will join my party so I have wolfie and the dirty women (I'm lousy with names).

What level is the Source Abomination? IIRC you're a little under levelled for that fight.

For the companions, if it is the dual dialogue that is preventing Madora and Jahan from joining, separate your main characters, dismiss Wolgraff and/or Bairdotr, then have a lone main character try to recruit one or both of the others. If the other main character is outside or downstairs, they will not be involved in the conversation, so can not object.

Source Abomination is level 8 (I believe) but I recall reading that it was level 10.

I think dual dialogue is the issue with Madora - my alter ego doesn't want a crazy woman in the group. Jahan, however, just doesn't give an option to join (I had dismissed Bairdotr prior). As far as too low a level - highly probable - often happens to me in this sort of game on a first playthrough. I'm running out of areas to check to level up in, though (I probably missed a lot as I try not to look at walkthroughs, etc, until I am thoroughly frustrated). That's why I'm thinking of a restart. For one, I'm not quick enough with the healing solutions and either have several hundred lost health points in a turn so "die" before using them (using a lot of those resurrection scrolls which keeps my money supply down) or I get caught in a spiral of low HP, use a potion, not enough points left to attack, lose a lot of HP, use a potion, ---- n. Often in this sort of game, bad early decisions can make it so that a come back is unlikely - it always goes much better on try 2 (but, alas, that is a double-edged sword as I also know too much on try 2).

Don't get me wrong, I'm greatly enjoying the game; I'm just not as driven as many a person so don't do as well :)

That's what I thought. I tried a quick search, since I don't have a save near there, and found a reference to level 10, but it was for the EE.

Talking to Madora with a single Source Hunter should work.
Did you go through all of Jahan's speech options? There aren't that many; he should offer and joint if you hit 1 repeatedly, assuming the non-lead character doesn't object to saying they will not make deals with demons. Is his opinion low enough he will not talk to you? Trading with him, giving him all your gold, and maybe other high value items you don't mind rearranging, and talking to him again may get him to join (save before trying), at which point you can take the gold (etc) back.

You should at least progress faster if you restart, having a better idea of where to explore first for experience, how to steal, etc. Picking up a spider summon (for example) may help, or saving before fights, and trying a different strategy if you use too many potions or resurrection scrolls, etc. Jahan starts with a healing spell, if you can get him in the party, and other characters can learn healing skills, as well.

Amazing what going up a single level will do; was able to create a fire elemental to keep the source abomination busy for a while and that made all the difference in the world. There were a few tasks I had missed; I did the double/ally puzzle (took a while to stumble onto the trick) and the lone infernal archer at the bridge in the east to get up a level; even managed to kill the black wolf pack. Jahan would have made it easier - I have nobody even closely configured as a healer. I'll have to look at the mercenaries in the Homeworld (?) again; I may have high enough of a level to get a good healer there. I'll experiment with Jahan too the next time I'm in town.
