There is a rain scroll on the starting beach, as well, north of where you start, near another point of interest.
The thing I don't like about the burning boat quest is that you can be looting around outside the gate when you trigger the event. It's no big deal because it's in casting range, but having them applaud from so far away feels a little odd. If you have a lengthy conversation with Ahru and spend a lot of time trading after triggering the event, you might actually burn the ship down.

darthspudius: Nope, it's usually just sitting on a table before a mass of fire and some water barrels.

Hawk52: Huh. How did I never notice it? That explains a lot since you can't start with Rain (I don't think) I'd wondered how in the world you were supposed to solve that. Now I know.
You can absolutely start with Rain.

It's true. I wouldn't quite prioritize it that much, but you just have to customize your talents and skills to have 1 Hyrdo and swap out one of your spells.

But generally the scrolls can carry you over until you can buy a Rain tome. It's not the end of the world to go without for a bit, even if it can be annoying when you run into hazards.
Absolutely, I'm not disagreeing. I think that Rain is probably a pretty bad starter spell - you should find a Rain Book (or be able to make one) fairly soon.

I was just saying that you *can* pick it as a starter spell.

Now if you'd *want* to, that's questionable. :D
Well now I really feel like an idiot. :(

I had my first real hard battle on Tactician with the archers & Explodoskeletons near Cyseal. Mostly just because I was careless and I didn't expect the archers to have so much AOE. Second time I just used firespells to blow the Explodos up before we even had a fight by going around the otherside.

I'm thinking of rolling a new game. Not because I'm having a hard time but because I'm kind of bored of the party. I'm doing Sword & Board tank and Fire/Water Mage which is a pretty strong combination. I also ave Jahan and Madora for NPC's. But it's basically the same exact thing I did with DOS originally (I stopped playing when I heard of EE). So while it works and it works well, it's just not very interesting.

Kind of want to try out more hybrid builds like a front line Rogue or a Battlemage type build. Something that changes up how the game plays a little. I just don't want to struggle throughout the game just to have a novel party though.

Archers can at least blow things up with fire arrows whenever you absolutely need fire now. You could also give an appropriate wand to a non-pyro mage. It really does feel like the obvious thing is to just have one Pyro on your team, though.
