How well tested was DD's new patch?
I only ask, because the game is virtually unplayable for me. Played a bit, ran into problem with teleporter stone listed in another thread. No way of fixing it.
No problem - restarted with a new chatacter. Can't enter the catacombs, as every time I try to change a level (either down the steps or using the teleporter stone) the camera remains fixed on the original level, so I can't see or move my character. The automap just goes black.
Okay, third character. This time, whenever Larimor turns up to give me the pyramid stone, the whole screen goes black, and it just crashes straight to desktop. This then happens with any save I use for that character, as do all the other bugs.
I can't believe that if on my fourth attempt to get past the opening settlement I manage to get through, there won't be any more game breakers for me just round the corner.
This is the first time I've ever been completely disappointed by a GOG purchase. For me (running a 1GB eee netbook with XP, which played the non-GOG version of DD fine), this game seems to be completely corrupted by game-breaking bugs. It seems bizarre that I can be the only one experiencing this?

Uhh... so I did some testing. The fix, for me at least, is really simple.
Running in 800*600, these bugs disappear.
Running in any of the new widescreen modes, these bugs reoccur.
So it seems like they don't quite have the widescreen compatibility sorted quite yet.

That sounds useful. Is it possible to mark this one as a support article or sticky it in some other way?

As posted in other thread: this can be because CapsLock was on. You can look around the area holding SHIFT: your character will stay put and you can move the camera.
So anyone having the "camera doesn't follow my character", check if you can solve this be pressing CapsLock or shift.
I had both of these problems at the same time, camera didn't move and if I changed locations I didn't but everything went black.
Caps lock was on so I switched that off and ran the config program to reset resolution.
All OK now!
Thanks
So, I've had about a week now of pretty stable gameplay, bar the church bug and a few other little CTDs. I would really recommend against selecting a widescreen type resolution. I am no longer disappointed by this game! My faith in GOG restored!
Have you tried 1024X768 (ie. higher res but not a widescreen?) That's what I'm playing on right now, but I might try going to 800X600 to see if it fixes my constant CTD's.
I have been having all sorts of issues, one thing that seems to be working for me is the whole 'run game as administrator' trick, and so far, I haven't has any crashes or bugs. Maybe that is the right answer around the game issues or by some fluk it is working for me. I hope this helps others.
One work around that helped me to recruit Mardaneus for the Council of Seven is a resolution change. After killing the Orc raiding party I was confronted by Demona. A few words and she approaches and strikes one blow which causes a CTD, every time for me.
Going to smaller resolutions made the crash happen quicker since I had approached much closer in order to see her. Changing to 1280 x 1024 res, she saw me from a greater distance, made her speech, and approached as usual.
Because of the extra distance I had time to use a freeze skill on her before she actually reached my character. Hacked away, hacking and freezing, she finally made her speech and left which allowed me to recruit Mardaneus. Might work for others as well.
the opposite was true for me. going to smaller resolutions allowed me a little more time before the CTD. she would actually hit me a few times and cast some wierd shield spell before it woudl go to CTD.
nevertheless, the eventual outcome was that i froze her and hellspiked her to death.
right now the major bug for me is the imp quest... i can't get the imp member because it crashes so horribly much each time i try to get through arkand.

I found Josephina to be the most frustrating ??bug??, soon as I close the dialog (on any resolution) I am completely surrounded by dwarfs, barely seeing my character. Having killed no dwarfs, she spikes me to death, if I'm not killed, I get a CTD, either way it is aggravating. Supposedly, I can go back up the ladder but I have never lasted long enough to make the click or the ladder doesn't respond to my click, not sure which. After many, many tries . . . not fun at all . . .
I have a similar problem to Stuff but as soon as i finish talking to Josephina the game crashes and another problem i seem to have was when talked to the imp for the seven council quest and denied him the first time i have tried to talk to him to enter the place in the staff but i get no option to enter again. is there a way to fix the problem without starting all over again.

Thanks. This works, but eventually the freeze wears off and if I don't freeze her fast enough and then the game crashes. :(
I should probably go pick up another level or two so I can kill her in one or two hits.

I hacked her 3 or 4 times, refroze her, hacked her 3 or 4 times, refroze her,etc etc. I have a lvl 3 freeze skill at character lvl 31, using Singing Blade it didn't take too long, it does avoid the CTD . . . =^ )
If I could just figure a work around for Josephina ???
Edit: You don't have to kill her, when near death, she babbles some revenge and teleports away. I refroze her even while she is still frozen.

Maybe not, follow this link and go to the very bottom to see DON'T tips, last tip, it's an old walkthru so they may have fixed the one time option in a later patch???
