Not so long ago I heard that there was plans for a DD digital re-release with support for higher resolutions. I haven't been able to verify if the GOG version is in fact the remastered edition or not. It's a great game and all but if an enhanced version is in the works it might be better to wait.
This is the remastered version with support for higher resolutions.

Just a few unanswered questions:
1) Does the support for higher resolutions include widescreen e.g. 1920 x 1200? If not, what are the res's that are supported? Is it real WS or does it just stretch it?
2) Will my old saves from appx 3/4 of the way thru the game (original CD) work with this new GoG version?
Thanks a lot. ***Great Game*** Btw.
The widescreen seems to just stretch it out - lots of pudgy folks running about. I ditched it and am just running with the 4:3 button on my monitor.

Look at the thread about netbook res. Much any resolution can be used but it has to be edited in the config.div file.

That's odd and definitely shouldn't be happening to you. The thing is pixel-based so nothing is stretched or resized at all when you change the resolution. It can make things damn hard to read at higher resolutions, but art assets shouldn't change dimensions at all.
Yeah, I ran it in 1920 no problem...although I ended up switching to a lower resolution because it made the characters too tiny.
If you're having trouble reading the text on higher resolutions, try the (unofficial, unsupported) font enlargement patch. Read all about it here: http://www.larian.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=374873
