Like the title says i get random static sounds while playing and because i wear headphones i get jump scares.

My system is a 3 years old laptop with Windows 7.

Is there a way to stop this? I read somewhere for the CPU affinity but i if alt-tab and change the affinity then i can't get back in game(get black flickering screens)

Also when i set compatibility to windows 98/ME the game doesn't even launch.

Occasional audio hitches in Divine Divinity


There are programs you can use to set the affinity, or you can create a shortcut to launch the game using a specific core, which would avoid having to Alt Tab.

Right click drag and drop the div.exe file to the desktop, for example, and select 'Create shortcuts here'. Right click on the new shortcut and select Properties. In the Target box, copy and paste the line below, so it is at the very start, followed by a space and the original path to the executable:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start " " /affinity ?

where the ? should be replaced by a number to determine which cores are used:

1 = CPU 0
2 = CPU 1
4 = CPU 2
8 = CPU 3

When you hit OK, the icon for the shortcut will be changed to that of the command prompt, but you can right click, select Properties and then Change Icon to switch it back.

Also Windows 95 compatibility, just like Windows 98/ME crashes the game.

Next thing i am going to try is setting the sound quality to dvd quality 16bit 48Khz and see what happens.

I started playing Divine Divinity yesterday and I also have blasts of static sounds. I don't use headphones, but it is really annoying and I don't want to play through the game listening to static sounds. Have you been able to fix it? I also have a 3-year old laptop with Windows 7 64bit.

Thank you for replying! Win 9x compatibility does not help, it crashes or freezes. I will try the suggestion above and let you know what happens.

I tried using Windowx XP SP3 mode and it fixed some of the problem. There is no more random static sounds, but I sometimes can hear a small clicking sound. I think this took the place of the random static sound, but it is more tolerable and makes the game playable. But, sometimes when I pick up specific items such as a gem or banner I hear the static sound again. I have only heard it twice. I think this mode will be OK for me. Thanks for your suggestions and help. It is nice to know some people still help others with this old game. I'm really enjoying the game so far.
