When I try to run DD, I'm given the following message:

"Divinity was not correctly terminated the last time. It is recommened that all dynamic files will be cleaned up and that all configuration data will be resetted. All savegames will still be available afterwards."

This is followed by a drop down box to select the game's resolution. After this, my screen will flash black a few times, and then the game closes itself. I've already gone to properties tab and checked Run as administrator and Win7 compatibilty. I've also tried downloading and installing again, and no go.

In case they're needed, my specs are:
I7 processor, 4 Gig DDR3 RAM, Radeon HD 5750, all run on Win7. If it matters, I'm running Win7 through Parallels, on my Imac, though I've downloaded and run Sacred from GOG with no problems. Does anyone have any tricks I could try?

I have no experience with Win 7 on Parallels but I will make these suggestions concerning a Win 7 Divine Divinity game install. I think they would apply regardless of Parallels being involved.

Sounds like you have a partial install. If you have no saves to backup I would uninstall the game completely first. Delete any folders remaining after the uninstall under Program Files\GOG\Divine Divinity.

Turn off UAC prior to the install. Create a directory outside of the Program Files directory, I use C:\Games. Install as an administrator by right clicking the setup.exe and click "Run as an administrator" on the resulting dialog.

On the first GOG installer dialog, click the Options button in the lower left corner and point the install to the new game directory located outside of the Program Files directory.

Install. After install, right click the game shortcut, click Properties, click the Compatibility tab and check mark "Run this program as an administrator"

This should give you a full, working install on the Win 7 system.

I followed word for word, and no go. I'm positively stumped.

I assume you are getting the same results with the suggested install? I wanted you to do the suggested install to confirm it was a full install, thanks for doing that. A partial install can cause similar problems.

I should first tell you that the following fix is not supported by GOG or Larian Studios. It has fixed similar problems for other users with no side affects. But . . . it your decision to use it . . . =)

The last suggestion I have is to download the Old Config Tool.

Go to the DD install directory and find a file named "configtool.exe" and rename it. This will give you a backup of the new, supported config tool. Download the "old" config tool from the link above and copy it to the DD install directory.

Right click the old configtool.exe and click "Run as an administrator" in the resulting dialog. You will get a dialog with options (see attached image) Set the "New rendering system" from "Direct 3D" to "DirectDraw" and click apply and close.

Try running the game. This usually lets the game run in unusual circumstances like a VMware install. Try different compatibility modes (on the shortcut properties,compatibility tab) as well, starting with the newest working backwards to the oldest.

If it does not help, rerun the tool and set it back to Direct 3D and apply. Delete or rename the old tool and rename the original tool. No need to keep the old config tool if it does not help . . . =)

You might be able to change the render settings in Parallels as well which would affect the way your imac interpreted the video feed from Win 7.

Edit: you might try setting rendering to "Software" before reverting back to the original config tool.
