What do I need to do to enable the opening movie/cutscene upon startup?

To run the Intro movie:
=============================
On the startup screen, click "View Intro"

=============================

If you can't get the intro to run at all on Vista / Win 7, right click the game short cut, click Properties, click the Compatibility tab and check "Run this program as an administrator"

Hope this helps . . . =)

Thanks - I am aware of the ability to run the opening scene from the main menu, but wonder why I can't re enable it to run automatically at startup? I think on my cd version it always did. Maybe not.

So I am just making sure that I will be able to view the later cut scenes in the game, or if they are somehow disabled as well?

I believe the GOG version runs the cut scenes but not automatically for the first one. All the cut scenes ran perfectly for me.

The reason, IMHO, is the CD version required the CD to run the cut scene since it was stored and accessed on the CD rather than in the game folder. Since the GOG version does not require the CD the autorun of the opening cut scene was disabled since it would ask you to insert the CD so it could access the file. Enabling also caused the digital version to hang at every cut scene since it tried to access the CD for every cut scene file.

You can still find the config.div file in the DD install directory and find the following lines.

// show the intro movies
startup logo 0

Changing the 0 to 1 causes the low res logo movie to run on startup but I believe the line to enable the startup cut scene was removed completely. Maybe someone can offer a solution but I believe V1.005A (GOG's) does not need the command in the config.div as it would cause a hang at every cut scene. I actually prefer it this way as once I see the intro I want to cut it off on startup anyway . . .=)

Edit: open the config.div with notepad

Thanks for the help!
Does anyone know if the later game cutscenes still play automatically?

All cut scenes played automatically for me except the opening cut scene.
I am unable to view the opening cutscene or proceed with the game after the council of seven ritual. The game has triggered another cutscene and prompts me to insert play disk 3. Both cutscenes give the same prompt and I am unable to proceed or cancel without closing the game.

I followed some instructions to patch the game previously (and had never attempted to view a cutscence before patching) and wondering if there is a solution or if perhaps uninstalling and re-installing without patching is a possible solution.

I have run Divine Divinity as an administrator as well, it still has the same problem.

I also tried, as the read me file suggested, to delete the *.bik files from the static folder to prevent cutscenes from playing, but the prompt for the CD remained.

I checked my Divine Divinity setup and there are no settings for compatibility and I can run the game and view the cinematics without needing to run as administrator. The download from GoG already has the latest patch(and I think you may have attempted to use the retail patch). I'd recommend backing up your saves along with uninstall/reinstall.

On the start screen, in the lower right corner, what version number is displayed? GOG's version is at the latest version (V1.005A ) and will not require any patches to be installed. If you installed a patch on the GOG release you actually down patched to the old V1.0034 (1.34) which is the old retail patch version. AFAIK, there is no patch V1.005A available for the retail or CD releases. All digital releases should be at the new patch level.

Also, check the DEP setting on your computer. If it is set to "Turn on DEP for all Programs and services" set it to "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only"

I have had several games ask me for a disk if DEP is on for all programs.
Thank you for the quick response, I ended up going with a re-install and it seems to have fixed the problems. Thank you.
