Sometimes in game, it appears a particular sound file may be corrupted or something, being replaced with two chirps of static. I'm on Win 7x64 and this is the first gog title to give me any technical difficulty.

Does anyone else have this issue, or should I just reinstall the game?

Thanks

This is a fairly common problem on multicore PCs.

You could try setting the affinity to a single core to see if it fixes the problem :

http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-set-processor-affinity-to-an-application-in-windows/

If the sound works ok on a single core, you could consider a more permanent solution such as the Runfirst utility :

http://www.activeplus.com/Products/RunFirst

You add the command to the shortcut -" [path] runfirst.exe" "[path] applicationname.exe"

Ahh multicore, yeah I have a Core 2 duo 3.16 ghz.

I've played Thief the Dark Project, which you have to trick into thinking you're on a single core or it crashes, so it makes sense that the second core is causing the problem. I'll try setting the processor affinity to only one of the cores.

Thanks, hopefully it works.
Just FYI, no problems with audio glitches since setting the processor affinity to only one core. I'm downloading runfist now.

Thanks for the advice.

also, for people who have realtek audio, in my case this worked so it's worth a try, right click on the realtek logo, take sound manager and put sound quality to dvd (or higher quality) this helped me with my problem, and runfirst gave problems to my pc (and couldn't figure it out anyways)
I had sound issues also I found the CPU affinty didn't work work but Audio Hardware acceleration was what I needed to change. My system WinXP sp3 with soundblaster Live 5.1 audio card.

To work around I went into dxdiag.exe (go to start - run to launch it). Then Under sound I set the "Hardware Sound Acceleration Level" slider right down to Basic or no acceleration. Does the trick with Divine Divinity and Beyond Dinvinity.

Setting sound quality to dvd worked for me also.

Win 7 64bit, Realtek on-board sound

I couldn't find the Realtek Control Panel (no Realtek logo/icon in taskbar or anywhere) so i went to Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound/then select Speakers/Properties/Advanced

There you will see a "Default Format" - "Select the sample rate and bit depth to be used when running in shared mode."
And set it to "16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality)

There, hope it helps someone.

Also, thx to shihuandgi for the solution!

This seemed to work for me, and was probably a lot simpler than the other solutions posted. Thanks!

Side-note, I think you probably meant dvd or lower quality, as the list is displayed with the lowest at the top and the highest at the bottom. I started out with studio quality (near the bottom) and had to lower it to dvd quality (near the top).

Anyway, thanks for the easy fix. =)

I run everything at 24-bits 96000Hz...and I'm thinking, why doesn't everyone? Is it a cpu issue for folks--as in not enough power? I mean, I wonder why folks would not want the highest sound output quality they could get. My RealTek 892 will produce up to 24-bit 192000Hz output, actually. I can't recall if I ever had a problem with 192000Hz...think I'll go ahead and set it to maximum and see if I run into any problems...

Have you installed the 1.62a version from Gog?

(It has some slight changes from earlier versions as to the how the soundtrack plays, etc.)

AFAIK, This problem is related to new code to make the game using multi core processor. The CPU itself does not have problems. Other solution may be found by changing other settings in other part of system.
The fix is not official and come from users with various configs. So this problem may happen with some but not others. So do the fix, may work on some and not on others.

Setting the audio to DVD quality worked wonders!!
