Apparently the config tool only offers widescreen resolutions, the only one of those that it offers which I can use is 800x600.
If I edit the config.div file I can put in 1600 by 1200 manually but the game is far too small. What gives? If I had known this wouldn't work I wouldn't have bought it. Any ideas?

I believe for the 16:9 screen the game supports up to 1920 x 1080. The standard resolutions my DD install supports 640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1024 x 768 and 1280 x 1024 and higher if you edit the config.div. I usually play at 1024 x 768 but use the other standard res's for certain quests. 1280 x 1024 works as well but is almost too small for me to use all the time.

Although it is in response to a netbook question I believe you will find it useful in solving your problem.
Edit: Also, the higher res you use the smaller the game graphics, for ANY game . . . that's just the way it is. Use a resolution that makes the characters the size you want . . . =^ )

Yes, I have already been able to switch the resolution via config.div but it crushes the picture to a smaller square in the middle of my screen. It doesn't even fill my monitor's screen. That's why this is so peculiar, if it was really 1600x1200 it would just fill my monitor and it would be perfect. I am led to believe something isn't working right.
what size monitor do you have? it is strange, because i have a 21" and i like 800x600... i know people who have 17" and they want 1900x1200. you wind up with a teensy avatar....

May sound strange but make sure your monitor supports that high res you have entered into the config.div. If it doesn't support the res you entered it could cause some strange results.
Not sure what OS you have but (Vista) right click the desktop, select Personalize, Display Settings. You should see a dialog with a resolution slider, if you move it all the way to the right, that should be the highest res your video card/monitor combo can support. If it is lower than what you entered into the config.div it would mean you are forcing your card/monitor to display a res it cannot support, hence the problem. That "highest" res should be what you enter into the Config.div as that would be the highest your system would support.
Make sure your config.div looks like this and that you don't have the width and height numbers reversed.
// display width
width 1600
// display height
height 1200
Make sure you have the latest video drivers.
If you can run the high res and you have the latest drivers, see if there is a "stretch" setting in your driver configuration, used sometimes to make standard graphics fit a wide screen, turn it off and try the game. Other than those suggestions, I have no further advice, sorry. . . =^ )
Edit: Just curious, what is the highest res you can run and the screen looks "normal" ??

Hi there.
The little square crushed down to size that you speak of is just the intro screen and game menu.You'll see when you start a game, that the game world will fill up your entire screen.

Aha, there's the difference. I loaded the game before and saw the really dark fog of war on my monitor around my character and thought it was just boxed. Thanks for explaining this.
