Think I found a bug in DD that has suddenly turned me right off of it.

When I got up to Level 2, I went ahead and allocated my bonus attribute points. At the time the confirm button was tucked below the task bar graphics so I didn't see it and didn't know I needed to confirm my selection.

Boom, Level 3 rolls around and I noticed my stats are still the same. Worse yet, the points I spent in Level 2 did not roll over. This is a brutal bug.

I know, i know. I can just restart since I'm so early in but lost time is lost time. At this point I can't just keep playing knowing I've been stiff out of 5 attribute points!

so the lesson is to make sure you click that confirm button when leveling up. also make sure the window isn't being obscured by the effin task bar.

Most unusual as the points are always saved for future assignment even if you forget to push the check mark button.

If using Vista / Win 7, there can be some problems with disk writes if you did not install by right clicking the setup.exe and clicking "Run as an administrator" from the resulting dialog when installing the game.

If you have not right clicked the game shortcut, clicked Properties, Compatibility tab, and check marked "Run this program as an administrator", you should do this also.

It is also recommended to turn UAC off during the install and, especially for Win 7 64, install in a directory outside of Program files i.e. C:\Games.

Not doing any of the above can cause the game to be partially blocked from writing to disk. If you did all of this, try making the div.exe a trusted program in your firewall.

Ignore the above if you are using XP.

Also, I use RunFirst to set core affinity to a single core. (Ignore this if you are using a single core CPU) This usually fixes a sound glitch but on some systems just makes the game run better.

If you are using a dual core AMD CPU, you might get some benefits from the AMD Dual Core Optimizer. This stopped some Painkiller jitters on my laptop.

Hope this helps . . . =)

Wow. Well I think I've found the resident DD expert on GOG. :)

The rage subsided after I found a quick save slot that saved me right before I did any leveling up. It didn't bump me that far back which is good. I was able to spend those precious points after all.

Your "Run as administrator" tip is pretty important for Win7 users. DD does not even start until I set that up first.

cheers,

lol . . . I don't know about that but there are many folks that like DD and try to help others enjoy the game. . . =)
Losing a point is not as horrible as it sounds, if you are willing to game the system a little bit. You can save and then reload saves when vendors are fresh (about every "game" 24 hours) to get spell books. You can do the same with bookshelves, but it is much more tedious in my experience. Anyway you can wind up with a lot more points than you're really supposed to have by design, so missing a couple//few points is more aggravating than anything else.

Even if you don't like doing such things, I think the game "owes you" a couple books if you lost your points.
