murphzor: My friend bought the steam version and now we can't play together. I may have to seek a refund if the patch doesn't come out today. This disruption can't keep happening ;s
Steam auto-updates - it used to be possible to disable it (and a very good idea to do so to avoid problem patches) but apparently that option no longer exists. So anyone multiplaying with a Steam version is going to encounter regular version mismatches.
GOG needs time to prepare a new update using files supplied by Larian (or any other developer) and has a clear interest in avoiding those updates that have problems (Eador Master of the Broken World being a key example with shambolic patching from Snowbird). That also allows GOG customers to choose whether to update or not - a major plus when one breaks savegame compatibility like the
Blackguards 1.5 update just did.
If multiplaying with your friend is so important, consider getting them a GOG copy and spare them the horror of
nerfed elemental resistance. :)
