Does the GOG.com version work with retail save games from 1.34 and will they work with the patch too?

Since DeathKnight says above "Patch will work with "old" savegames (GOG version)" I would say the following:
You would need to contact Larian Studios at "info at larian dot com and mention DeathKnight in the subject line and ask the message be forwarded to David" since GOG would not support any DD game versions but the one they offer.
The GOG patch will be a complete download of the install exe and would not be a patch you could apply to a retail install. Larian may release a retail patch as well so . . .it would be worth you while to ask Larian.
If you get a firm answer it would be good of you to post it here for others . . .=)

Well I am afraid they can cause some troubles with the patched version. Now I owe the GOG.com edition (retail version I have given as a gift), so that's why I ask.
Anyway, I have just sent mail as you suggested and waiting for reply :)
Good news the patch is here at last!!! And it rocks louder than an AC/DC concert turned up to 11!
Woooo!!! The patch is the difference between cotton and silk. I no longer have to worry about the game crashing every time someone swings a stick at my character's head! Fantastic!!
Actually it isn't here. I just want to disappoint you all like I have been disappointed for the last couple of months whenever someone replies to this forum about the patch. I keep seeing new posts and thinking, 'Result, they have patched this game at last, my what a glorious day this is! I shall go find an animal to slaughter in a sacrificial manner as thanks to their gods!' but alas it's just someone else saying something like, 'Ooh there is a patch coming? Ooh 'eck, didn't know, but let me post that I didn't know so that you get your hopes up there's some new information forthcoming when there isn't!'.
I cry myself to sleep every night a new post brings with it no new news of the patch. And yet I look towards the horizon, scanning the treelines and fields as if waiting for a magical ship (magical in the sense there's no river or sea for it to sail on) that will arrive with a golden ray of sunlight behind it, and on that heaven sent ship there contains a working patched copy of Divine Divinity that I can spend many joyous days playing. It is that dream that keeps me going, keeps my hopes alive. Tonight I will once more keep my silent vigil by the window, looking for the good ship DD to arrive on my shores. Now excuse me whilst a say a little prayer to God of Patches whilst the nurses hold me down and increase my medication...
So say we all . . . =)

Well I'm glad I thought it was true for the few seconds between reading the first sentence and the few in between the truth. Oh the disappointment. :'-(
Relax , the patch is in progress, you may all feel like sh@t or kill yourselves and still the patch will not hurry up for you.
Take your head off of the damn patch and start entertaining yourselves somehow, anyways if you focus solely on the damn patch your gonna make it more than it will be in your heads so chill its coming
Apparently Impulse released a patched version yesterday, according to this thread at Larian:
http://www.larian.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=404226
The game's listing on Impulse also now shows a release date of 1/26/2010 and version 1.05. So, hopefully GOG will also make an updated version available soon.

Haha, what if the big surprise tomorrow is just the patch for DD? :P
I'll finally be able to finish DD. :D

I can't wait !! . . . =)
The event for the countdown was revealed on another site. I won't link it as to not spoil it, but it's definitely not for the patch; if that gets released tomorrow it's purely coincidence.
Still though, it'd be nice to have.
