Stuff: Games released after 1999 do not depend on Glide so I suggest trying the DirectDraw mode if the Direct 3D doesn't work well for you. DD was released in 2002.
I should first say that the old configtool.exe is not supported or recommended by Larian Studios or GOG for use with the GOG version of DD. So, use at your own risk.
You can copy the old configtool.exe from your CD or download the old config tool from
here. I would backup the existing tool or rename it before copying the old tool to the DD install directory. Once you have it in the DD directory, double click it and you should see the option you are looking for. (See attached image) It seems to work without any problems even though there is no support for the tool. . . . =)
Edit: The resolutions were limited with the old configtool.exe. If your monitor res is not supported you can set your game resolution manually by going to the DD install directory and finding a file named config.div. Open it with notepad and look for the following lines -
// display width
width 1280
// display height
height 1024
Change the numerical values only to your monitors resolution. Make sure you enter the right value for width and height as reversing the height / width values will not work properly.
When you open the game the start menu will never be larger than 1280 x 1024. If you have a high res monitor it will always have a large black border around it. The game screen will fill the monitor depending on the res you entered. Some folks thought the res was off due to the limited size of the start menu.
Also, when you first begin a game at high res your character will be rather small surrounded by a large area of black. This is normal with the fog of war receding as you move your character around. Eventually the full screen will be cleared of the fog of war until you move out of the cleared area. I found 1280 x 1024 ( or near that ) to be my preferred size, any higher and the characters / text were just too small.
Hope this is not TMI, rather give you too much as not enough . . . =)
Thanks! Copying the config tool solved the problem and am now running in Glide successfully!
