How do I make the game Divine Divinity run fast on my Windows 8 Hp Pc? The game was installed and it runs slow for the most part and the loading times are slow too. Can someone help me make it run fast. The other gogames run fast and they are more graphically demanding than this game.

In the configuration program, switch from Direct3D rendering to Software. There should be a shortcut in the Start menu folder for the game, or you can run the configtool.exe program in the install folder.

Hey I know I'm not the original poster but I just wanted to thank you. I had the same problem and your tip solved it!
I just fixed this problem.

For the gog version you'll have to go into the install location of the game

[right click the shortcut and press "properties" then click "open file location"]

In the main game directory you need to find a program called "configtool"

run this program and set the game into software mode.

This can make the game run much too fast that its unplayable, so if you have a nvidia gpu you can go into the Nvidia control panel and force vsync on the game under the "manage 3d settings" selection.

I've also found other people using a screen capture program called "DXTORY" to limit the game to 30/60 fps.

I just fixed my game and hope this helps some!

Ok. I got the game to run well but it crashed in the middle of catacombs beneath city. Do you know if there is something else I should do? Or should I do what kikki said?

Was it a random crash or is there something consistent (a cutscene starting, opening a door, etc) that always causes a crash? If it appeared random, just save the game periodically and keep going (unless it continues to crash). If is consistent, what triggers it, and where exactly are you?

If the game is otherwise running well, there is no need to try kikki's suggestions (the problem with the game running too fast seems to be much less common that issues with it running slow in Direct3D mode in Windows 8).

It was a random crash and as long as it stays random, I am happy. The game runs fine I am just inquisitive. After looking at how much help you've given people here, I would buy you a coffee if I could :)

If you don't like coffee, you still are more than awesome in my book. If random stuff like that happens and is somewhat normal let me know? As long as it doesn't happen regularly. Thanks again bro!

Random crashes shouldn't be any more common than other games or windows in general, unless there is something specific the game doesn't like about your system, or vise versa.

There is an alternate solution posted recently which may let you run in Direct3D: Windows 8 slow graphics problem fixed using WineD3D.

I don't see much visual difference between software and Direct3D (the fog of war edges and the way it clears look much better in Direct3D, but the lighting and spell effects I've tried in both look the same in Software), but others have reported differences to various degrees.
