Divine Divinity & Beyond Divinity look like games that I would really enjoy. But for once I resisted the release day purchase impulse and I'm glad I did. I'm curious to see if this will really be patched.
I hereby pledge to purchase both as soon as I hear that DD has been patched.

Ok, that makes a lot more sense. I don't run software that does that so I'm ok on that account. I agree that it's good that Larian is trying to patch it, but again, it shouldn't have been released here if it was in such a poor state. I've purchased several games from GOG, and this is by far the worst behaving one so far. If I were to actually pick up a couple more that behaved like this I would definitely stop telling my friends about how great GOG is....

Stuff: The game is not trying to connect to the internet, it is trying to create the files necessary to run the game, such as a save file for your newly created character. It first has to create the character folder, than the file containing all the info for the character.

I agree with everything stuff said. the fact that, despite all the bugs, i am still very very much into the game tells you how great a game it is.
I really really eagerly await the patch. as it is right now... and this is unfortunate... i am running into a lot of bugs. I'm finding clever ways to work around them (like how desdemona would crash every time she attacked me, so what i did was spend 2 points of skill on Freeze and prevented her from ever hitting me) but i'm running out of ways. right now i'm in the bee/wasp world and crash is really easy to happen here.
btw, just to add: many of us older players (i'm 30, which is not that old i know) aren't too bothered by the bugs because we grew up playing games with TONS of bugs. and we loved them. remember master of magic?

The alternative to GOG . . .remember Hellgate: London . . . $60 rental fee, DRM infested, install limits, messed up patch system, forced DL content / patch sign-up, internet connection required, 12 hr play through, bugs . . . . Oh, wait . . . all new games are like that now.

indeed. although i still play MoM every so often. great game.
you know what, stuff? i like DD so much I'm thinking of picking up a used retail copy somewhere. is there a real big difference between teh remastered version and the retail?

I missed DD completely, it was released during my "I'll never buy another game" period. Guess that is why I am enjoying it now, brand new to me. I think it had a max res of 1024x768 but was basically the same as the GOG release.
I have several games that I ALWAYS have installed, DD (when patched) may finally knock Diablo LOD out of the lineup.

I wish BD's interface were more like DD: simple and easy. I've only played about half an hour (with 10 of those minutes trying to figure out how to level up) and just can't bring myself to go any further.
I know it isn't fair to pass judgement so quickly, but...playing this hurts.

Interesting, I had not heard there was a different UI for BD. I just downloaded it this week and will probably not install until I finish a patched version of DD. Thanks for the heads-up . . .=^ )

Cliftor: Spinning monks? Are we talking about the same "Cursed Abbey"? The only things I saw are those steel skeletons and the engineer in the basement. Solved the quest no problem.

duenor: it sounds like one who plays DD should save a lot... in many different slots... so that you can revert to an uncorrupted game.
i'd like to hear what larian thinks about the bugs.

It's not that bad. I have a pretty flawless copy. I have the Xplosiv CD-ROM edition.

and yes, exceptional support.
DD is like what I wish morrowind were more like... although it was already very nice in terms of freedom, DD has much more freedom. and i like the isometric view.
another thing - i am SO very glad that there isn't a "party" to worry about. i'm a hero, gosh darn it, and i don't need any stinkin' roadies.
btw so far the game has only crashed 4 times on me in about 27 hours of play. that's not bad considering that i constantly hit the windows key to switch tasks while playing. and i'm running this off of an old Dell laptop. knock on wood and all that, but it has not been the bug-infested tragedy that i feared it might be after reading these reviews.

I never could get on with Morrowind for some reason. I think it's the 1st person perspective that puts me off. I will play 1st person, but only on a select few games that don't irritate me, although I much prefer 3rd person games.
