Hi!

I played DD once years before and I'm pretty sure I completed it, but I don't really recall the end-game, etc. I DO remember that I loved the game, though, so I'm looking forward to playing it again.

Here's my question though: The first time I played it I was a goodie. While I know you can be generally rude and a big jerk to people in your conversations, is there a viable "evil" path in the game, or is that a pretty unprofitable path all around?

Thanks!

From what I understand from my small amount of experience with the game recently and what I've read about it, there are no benefits whatsoever apart from the joy of being an asshole to everyone you meet. I mean, normally being a roguish kind of character in RPGs means you get to steal stuff and all that - like in Fallout 3 and Fallout NV, it lowers your karma to steal but if you do steal, you'll never be out of ammo, weapons or money - but in DD you can steal as much as you like without repercussion, as long as you don't get caught.
I found that being evil made the game somewhat harder, not necessarily in a good way, since your reputation determines how people treat you, how much you are charged for items etc.

Here is a copy and past from this post about his experience with a less than upstanding character . . . =)

"In a fit of greed my character was taking the food off the table of the Lizardman healer and was caught (they have to be looking at you, but as you raise your skills you can steal things while being watched). Although I had a reputation of 2 he didn't like me anymore. He wouldn't heal me, repair my equipment, nor identify my items. He also charged me outrageous prices for potions. 200 gold for a small one! After I died and had to reload I didn't steal from him. I saved the soldiers as before and this time when I spoke to him he taught me a skill. What you do does influences your game play. You can be a jerk thief in what you say and do and you will have a hard life from the generous people, but the scoundrels won't mind. You can be nice and helpful and reap the rewards of it from the generous people but the scoundrels will try to rob you blind."

Keep in mind that you end up being "The Divine One", you are fighting the Demon of Lies, and in future games the enemy is "The Damned One". This does strongly hint you're meant to play the good guy.
