Hi all,

Just pre-ordered Dragon Commander and am wondering how I gain access to the free Master of Magic and Divine Divinity copies? Will they eventually appear automatically in my games list, or do I have to do something else first? Thanks!

Never mind - GOG emails the redemption codes automatically. FYI for any others with the same question :)
While I'm always excited to support GOG in any way I can, I gotta say that I am pretty disappointed that us GOGers aren't allowed into the beta. I've also been seeing some posts stating that GOG versions of Dragon Commander won't be multiplayer compatible with Steam versions of it. Was this Steam's call? Larian's? Or is it just impossible for DRM and Non-DRM versions to communicate with each other :)? Either way, this is certainly going to give me pause on my future purchases of new releases on GOG.

Unfortunately, GOG doesn't have any support for betas. Presumably if the beta is opened up more so that anyone can get a key, GOG pre-orderers would be first in line.

GOG has a warning on the Dragon Commander page that states the multi-player "...is compatible only with the DRM-free versions of the game bought on GOG.com". However, that is incorrect.

This was posted in the Larian forum:
GOG, Steam, Vault etc... No differences

We've noticed there's some confusion about the Steam version of the game versus the other versions like the one that'll be distributed through gog.com or the vault.

The short of it is that all versions all equal and all versions are compatible with one another.

You do need a Steam account if you want to take advantage of all of the Steamworks features that are integrated into the game.

If you don't have a Steam account, then you can still play online or in a LAN, but you won't be able to use the Steamworks features. In that case the Steamworks part of the game will become grayed out.

All versions are DRM free btw but feature a secret surprise for pirates.

Hope that clears it up.

I appreciate the fast response and thank you for the clarity. When you say that one must have a steam account to take advantage of steamworks, what exactly does that mean? Will we be putting our keys into steam and activating the game through them to take advantage of steamworks? If so, that's fine by me, just curious. Thanks again!

Other than the lobby system for multi-player, I don't know what features of Steamworks Dragon Commander may take advantage of (leaderboards, etc). Actually, I'm not very familiar with Steamworks.

You will need the game on Steam to use Steamworks. The retail version will include both a DRM free backup on GOG and a Steam key; for digital versions, the Larian Vault will include a Steam key in addition to a DRM free download, but GOG and (AFAIK) Gamersgate will not.

Aside from the DRM and matchmaking elements, Steamworks mostly seems to be about supporting the achievements/social networking/etc elements of the Steam client.

Unless you're really, truly aghast at the thought that your Steam-friends won't be able to see your activity with the game, it looks like the matchmaking element is the only part that might be an issue, and that just means you'd have to use direct connect.

Alienware is giving away a bunch of beta keys (you need to create or log in to an Alienware Arena account).

Thanks much for the follow up. It is appreciated.
"All versions are DRM free btw but feature a secret surprise for pirates. "

I in no way condone Pirates, specially of great folks like Larian games, but this sentence has me filled with curiosity. I can not wait to hear what this could be.
