ive been trying for a little while to play dragon commander with a friend and it appears the only option is lan OR ip connection. and we cant connect via ip. it keeps saying connection setup failed or some such.

anyone know what to do to fix it or is it just something thatll get fixed on its own at some point

I'm wondering as well, Larian Studios gave the impression that all versions of the game would be feature complete, yet the gog version seems to be completely missing online multiplayer, does anyone know whats going on?

Hopefully it will get fixed. It might help to enable port forwarding in your routers, unless you are directly connected to a modem, but I'm not sure what ports the game uses. I believe there is suppose to be more detail added for failed connections.

. There is online multiplayer via direct connection. If you have the Steam version in your library and the Steam client running you can also use the Steamworks lobby.

Well this is the greatest fail ever. I bought the GOG version in good faith and this is how you repay us. What a joke. Basically guys what he is saying is GOG members have to suck lemons. Gonna enquire for a refund asap.

From the store front: What does that even mean? Please enlighten me. I assumed this ment GOG users had their own online lobby. But it seems it doesnt. You either LAN or use Tunngle or suck it. Now it seems as Ive already downloaded I cannot even get a refund. And seen as I bought this for multiplayer It would appear I have to pay double to get the steam version.

Did you expect the GOG version of the game to include Steamworks? Is there any game on GOG that uses Steamworks? I'm pretty sure there was a game on GOG that had to have the multiplayer portion removed because it used Steamworks.

Steamworks can not be used unless a game is included in your Steam library. GOG does not support / distribute Steam keys.

. Why would a statement about compatibility mean there was a lobby system? Wouldn't it be more reasonable to assume a direct connection would be used for multiplayer for a game on GOG, rather than a server being required, if there is no mention of a server at all?

I'm pretty furious about this. and now not being able to get a refund is the icing on the cake.
I have no interest in an RTS I cannot play online or if i want to , it has to be a pre arranged direct connection with no stat tracking. Never mind. Delete.

I noticed in the Larian boards Raze your thread in regards to the retail version. That doesnt make me feel any better. Just thoroughly bitter.

im wondering how asking for information on getting multiplayer to work has turned into people getting angry and hating on larian and demanding refunds and all that because it doesnt work.

but i am looking into port forwarding or whatnot to see if i can work it so ill add more information that i find or if i get it to go

EDIT: ive found one post on a forum to port forwarded UDP 23232 so im testing it later on with a friend. so if you can test it please do and let me know the results.

ok then, i just finished a game with my buddy so port forwarding did work. only the host has to do it it seems so if you and whoever your playing with open the port anyone could host at that point.

Also note that the port you need to forward is 23232 UDP.

Considering the game supports LAN, we could setup our own Hamachi network if nothing else works.

this really is a kick in the n* for all who dont want to buy their games on steam. if the game doesnt fully work (and i dont mean achievements but essential parts of multiplayer) without steam Larian should have made it clear before selling it.
and that was obviously not done, seeing the comments in here, other sites and from my friends.
also statements like that "GOG, Steam, Vault etc... No differences" right up on the front page of the larian forums make believe something else.

didnt try hamachi since a couple of years. does it still have the lag problems every now and then?
also in some shooters we had to modify tick rates against stuttering enemies. im wondering if dragon commander would have the same problem.

Too bad there's so many problems with GOG version, guess I'm getting Steam version. Maybe GOG can provide some lobby server/API like Steamworks in the future? This seems to be a problem for newest games. I know, that requires a lot of money for servers upkeep, but what else there is to do?

There was online multiplayer before and without steam. And it was better for a couple of reasons.
The reason for them making these kind of exclusive deals is that they get into awful contracts with steam to make more money. ... and some indeed seem to have unlearnt how to provide multiplayer for their games ^^

This is nothing a distributer has to fix but the game manufacturer.
If you need distributers to provide features for the games you essentially cut out all but the biggest businesses from the market. which is what steam is trying to do to strengthen their absolute monopoly. and they are getting help by firms like larian.
