I heard you are going to remove this option and enforce 1920x1080 by adding black bars around the screen, unless we run in it a 1920x1080 window. I cannot believe you would do this. :(
Why cant you just add official support for 2560x1440 instead?
I dont know of any other popular games using black bars to enforce a lower resolution, wich ones would that be?

I recieved this after sending in crashdumps to your support.

"We are working on a fullscreen mode for higher resolutions, that will cut off part of the screen (you will have black bars). This is common among other popular games as well.
You can also play the game in windowed mode on a lower resolution.

I would assume there must be some kind of limitation with the game engine or UI, etc.

There is going to be a Linux version of the game at some point, after the engine is ported (there will be a Mac and Linux version of Divinity: Original Sin, either the same time as the Windows version or shortly after). If the resolution limitation is something that just needs more time to increase (for pixel based graphics, regardless of the engine there is some maximum limit), then any improvements made by then can be patched into the PC version.

But why would you add black bars around the screen?
This game needs big warning signs that anything above 1920x1080 will get black bars around them. I can see someone using a 4K-monitor trying to see anything in the small window left in the middle. ;p

I've been in contact with other gamers who use a single monitor with 2560x1440, and from that information we can conclude that your support team is wrong. Over 150 popular titles tested and not a single one of them runs in fullscreen with black bars around the image.

So please tell me wich popular games runs with black bars around the image with the resolution 2560x1440?

I would say none do this, except for Larian Studios Divinity Dragon Commander. I've posted on a very popular forum wich tens of thousands of gamers visits every day, and so far not a single user have been able to name one game wich enforces black bars in a resolution higher than 1080p.

Am I correctly reading this : You are going to release a Linux version of Dragon Commander? And have Linux as a primary target for Original Sin?That would be so awesome!

As for the black bars : please don't, Assassin's Creed (1 & 2) enforced these on my 1600x1200 screen to get a 16:9 ratio, and it was very annoying.

Yes.

The Mac/Linux versions of Original Sin were put on hold for awhile so Larian could concentrate on adding content, but once the kickstarter was funded Larian officially confirmed the releases and resumed work on porting the engine.
The editor that will ship with D:OS is Windows only, though. There are plans to update and extend the editor after release, to be used for several future projects, so hypothetically the Windows only components could get replaced (nothing official has been mentioned about that possibility).

Awesome! Really looking forward to it.
I won't do it myself, since I don't know how much the Larian guys want to publicise this right now, but you might want to drop a mail to Phoronix eventually. (It's pretty big in the Linux world). Just be cautious, he really makes a hype out of anything.
