Anybody knows how to change the language?

The game (in theory) comes with texts in Spanish however the installer doesn't let me change the language and inside the game there is no setting option to change it...

Any idea?

If you hold the cmd key while starting the game, you get (after a while, during which the game seems to hang/do nothing) a window that should allow you to change the language. However, the pop-up menu with the game languages is greyed out here. I don't know what's up with that.

Please download the new Mac patch we put up today to fix this issue :)
I install the patch. Now I have game with version 2.0.104.737 (gog-4), but same problem with language. I want set Russian, but dropdown is disabled.

Hi,

Can you send us a Support ticket about this with as much info as you can provide? Thank you!

So, some time went by, but it seems nothing has happened here.

I, though german, want to play the game in English, but the game insists on the german localization. When opening with cmd the language menu is greyed out and says something about being fixed by Steam. I have nothing to do with Steam and the different localizations are on my hard drive, so, come on, what's up with this?

Hello, I am also a german, on linux, but my workaround might also work on macOS. I started the game with "LANG=en" from the terminal to force English localization. As in "LANG=en executable".
I don't know, whether mac uses a start script, but if so, you can can change the entry in the script from "run_game" to "LANG=en run_game".

I use this for all games, that have this issue. If mac does not use a script, you can make your own bash script and start D:OS with the script.

Thanks, that was helpful!

While I didn't wanna start the game via terminal all the time, I found and changed the starting script inside the app-package, which was easy and worked right away.
The game has been patched to fix this bug, but now it's really weird: the language is now locked to "Specified in Steam" for me :) (see attached picture)

Details:
* GOG version 2.0.119.430 (upgraded with the patch from 2.0.113.775)
* OS X 10.11.3
* system language set to English
* running under a non-admin account
* not using Galaxy

Just bought the game and I have this issue, can't change the language to English (only playable in a very confusing English/German mix), language dropdown when starting the game with command held down is disabled, so it looks like after six months this problem still hasn't been solved. Is there any update on this or has Larian abandoned the GOG version of the game?

I'll try the workaround but I would prefer not having to manually edit the game's files to play it.

Did you install the 'Localization Fix' listed in the library entry for the game?

I installed through GOG Galaxy so all patches should have been applied already, but I just tried out installing the "Localization fix" anyway, doesn't seem to have changed anything. Still no language selection in game and the language selection when holding down command while starting the game is still disabled and says to use Steam's language selection instead.

The workaround mentioned here works to make the game default to English, so for me personally the problem is fixed, but the game should really be patched to offer a language selection for the GOG version, a quick google search reveals there are tons of people with this issue using all kinds of workarounds.

Step by step workaround for other people who have this issue:

1) Go to the folder where you (or GOG Galaxy) installs games, right click on "Divinity Original Sin Enhanced Edition.app", select "Show Package Contents" from the context menu.
2) A finder window opens. Double click on the Contents folder, then double click the Resources folder.
3) In there is a file called script.sh. You need to open this file with a text editor, not a word processor, a simple / programmer text editor, a word processor with Rich Text Formatting like TextEdit might mess up the file. If you don't know what that is, download Github's free and open source Atom text editor from atom.io and use that.
4) Find line number 4, starting with: lang=`defaults
5) Add a new line BELOW the line from step 4): lang="en"
6) Save the file, run the game as you normally would and it's now in English.

Check the rest of the file for other language codes to enter if you want to set a different language, like "ru" for Russian or "pl" for Polish. An update to the game might overwrite this change, so save this somewhere in case you need to do it again.
