Normally, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from GOG, but as we all know multiplayer appears much more difficult to use. However, I really don't like to use Steam if I don't have to, and I'd prefer to have a copy that doesn't have to be ran through it.

I noticed on Larian's website that if you the purchase the digital version you get a non-Steam copy and a Steam key. Does anyone know if that digital copy is directly from Larian or whether it is through GOG?

The digital version of the game is from the Larian Vault, with a Steam key. The retail version is Steam with a GOG key.
Where can you purchase the retail version at?

I only see a box version and digital version on Larian's site.

The box version is what I meant by retail. There was an actual retail release in a few places, but apparently not for the English version.

Dont buy from GOG, you wont get any patches, and you cant play multiplayer.

Steam/Larian Vault is on version 1.0.40.0, GOG is still crawling around on the 1.0.18.0 version, 22 builds between them and we have been promised patches several times but non is in sight yet. I wouldnt recommend anyone to purchase games from GOG.

This absolutely does not reflect on GOG.

First off, there may have been "22 builds," but not all 22 were released as patches, and second, Larian has to submit the patch to GOG before they can offer it. And also, you CAN play multiplayer, but some games are not as easy to set up with the GOG build.

EDIT: Straight from the Gamecard

Multiplayer notice:: The game's multiplayer mode is only available via Direct IP. It is compatible with the DRM-free versions of the game bought on GOG.com AND with the versions that use Steamworks, however you need to know the host's IP address in order to connect.

Please read before you post. Thank you.

I would prefer to purchase directly from GOG as I have quite a few games on here already. Are they going to eventually get the updates for the game or is the situation very questionable right now?

GOG has released the current patch (it just took them awhile; it was the previous 1.0.33 update that they had but didn't release), and Larian is working on an (optional) autopatcher to allow the DRM free versions of the game to download future updates directly.

This is exactly what I wanted, a hassle-free way to get the latest patches, GOG shouldnt have any say when it comes to the patches, they are a retailer and as such they should only do what they are good at, selling games.

^ FROM RIGHT HERE ^ You said you can't play multiplayer, and I showed you proof that you can. (I DO read before I post, and apparently my memory is not that bad either).

Either way, I will not waste my time on a troll like you anymore. The bottom line is Larian Studios is working to get the patches to GOG users faster, and that you were wrong when you said that you could not play multiplayer. Any other false claims or complaints?

EDIT: Oh, and GOG should absolutely have any say they want in what patches are released. Especially ones that are considered major updates. IT IS THEIR WEBSITE!!!

A retailer being involved in how patches should be distributed, there is help for you though, I heard Kim Jong needs more people for the mines.

So you are basically saying that if a game developer released a patch that allowed viewers to access hardcore porn in a T rated game, the retailer should have absolutely no say in whether they release the patch or not?

The retailer should never release patches, that should always be up to the developer.
And do you really mean Larian Studios would add hardcore porn in their game?
Not that I would mind though, would save me time from searching for it on my own.

No, but if Rockstar could release Hot Coffee, then I can only imagine what is possible. The point is that GOG should have the right to say NO, to any addition to a game that they sell, simply because things like that ARE possible.

Like I said in another post, you would fit right into North Korea, perfect match where no one trust anyone, not even the hand that feeds them.
