Hello,
I'm confused my brother gifted me this game but only the original edition and I read everywhere that the upgrade to eE
is free but was that only for some time or how do I do it?

It should be for D:OS keys created before the EE was released, as well.
Contact GOG support; their upgrade process isn't fully automated like on Steam.
