Well, a friend of mine bought the game and now he's bothering me with requests to play the game coop with him.

Thing is, i don't see this kind of game working as coop because the combat is slow paced (turned based, right?) and it's story focused (i rather play those games, heavy on story, by myself, alone) so i'm not sure if i want to ruin the experience by playing coop.

Oh, before you say that i'm a dick to my friend, there's also another problem, he never finish a game, he made me play Saints Row 3 coop with him... we only played 30 minutes and we never touched the game... he made me play Far Cry 4 with him, same thing... and the list goes on, my problem is that i don't want to start something, quit halfway and start again because of him.

I played it solo, but I can see how it would work co-op. For one thing, if you get into a battle, even though it's turn-based, there's an 'area of effect' type of mechanic where if your partner isn't in that combat 'zone' they're not affected by the turn-based mechanic and can move about freely (and can enter the combat where they'll then go into TB play). So you don't need to worry about that if that was one of your concerns. If you're both involved in combat, it wouldn't be a big issue, I don't think. You just take your turn as it comes and you each have potentially one companion you can control as well. So you won't be sitting around twiddling your thumbs.

As for the story, it's designed in such a way that two people can play through it without it being a problem. There are a number of points in the story where the two mains have opportunities to choose how they view a situation and get into a short convo with each other, which affects their personality traits. But there's no way to ruin the story through your choices at those points. This would be much more of a concern, IMO. Given his previous behavior I'd just opt for single player.

You can continue a co-op game in single player (multiplayer is drop in / drop out), as long as you are the host, or get the other person to give you the save if they host.
You can create multiple profiles to keep saves from different playthroughs separate.

Eh, i wouldn't trust my internet to host the game and the more i think of it the more i want to play singleplayer, after i finish the game and if he didn't played the game by then i will play coop with him.

If you're worried about the nature of the game, go co-op. This game is pure gold played this way.

If you're worried about the nature of your friend, well, you know the answer.

Anyway, you could host, keep the savegames in your computer and if he just get bored and quit playing you can go on by yourself treating his character as a follower. This would be the better option to not piss your friend off, maybe giving him a chance to "redeem" himself and enjoy together a very good game.

Think about it, I think it's worth.

Short answer: yes. Both.

Long answer: I've played through this game with a friend, coop the entire way. We would use skype (or whatever your favorite voip is) to talk while we played, so it was all fine. I could see how combat would get tedious if you couldn't directly communicate with your partner (text chat obviously doesn't count). Transferring control of characters to and from your partner is also very easy, so if your friend has to disappear for a bit of time, you can easily play in their absence (if they don't mind!).

However: if you start your coop game and nobody joins, you're literally just playing as if you were in single player mode. So if you begin a game with this friend and 30 minutes later they never play again, the only issue would be playing with a character your friend made. You could continue playing that game on your own. Without a coop partner.

Super old post, I know. So take my answer more as a reference to others.


If you don't want to play coop than just don´t do it.

But I can tell everyone that this game is meant to be played in coop, at best while being on site with your coop partner in lan. The game becomes much richer, the character interaction between the two main chars is just great, exploring the story together, stepping on each others feet and arguing into what direction you want to drive the game, story and progression makes the game simply richer.

I never would never suggest to play original sin with some stranger over the internet, but it was for sure a blast with my wife. The combat was better too, and not really slow at all, though this naturally depends on how much time you take for your turns. My wife tends to be sometimes a little bit rush on those things, so your experience may vary depending on your play partner.
