I own the GOG version of this game, but someone who owns the original retail release says that the he is unable to get the 1.5 patch because there is no public release of it. Is there a way for someone who bought the disc version of game at full price to get access to the latest patch?

GOG's DD is 1.005A, which is the latest one for digital version.
For retail, the latest was 1.0034A.

The patch you refer to was released for digital versions only.

The only way I know to get DD with the 1.5 patch ( for now anyway ) is to buy a copy of DD from GOG or another digital distributor.

It is well worth the $5.99 as the 1.5 game patch fixed MANY bugs . . . =)

Edit: Forgot to mention the 1.5 patch added high res / wide screen support as well. For me anything higher than around a 1280 horizontal res made the text and character way too small IMHO.

I was reading an article on Gamebanshee, and apparently Larian actually LOST the code for the 1.005A patch for the GOG version when one of their programmers left. It's possible that it might turn up someday, but apparently one of the big guys at the company is putting all of the code changes back in manually (which he thinks is great fun, apparently). This isn't really an issue so much as an inconvenience because they don't actually have masters past 1.0034A, but it does mean that it's possible that they'll release the "new" patch once all the changes get replaced.

The article is here.

Thanks for this info, very interesting. When DD was released here on GOG, the 1.5 patch introduced some major bugs. (the res update IMHO) Larian's lead DD programmer was posting regularly here in the DD forums as "DeathKnight" along with one other dev. They got the bugs worked out and re-released the setup.exe.

I have great respect for Larian Studios as they took the time to fix a seven year old game (at the time) which, IMHO, most developers would not have done so. If not for their use of DRM, I would buy every game they released.

I wondered why DeathKnight stopped posting here in the forums. He was a great resource . . . =)

They always patch out the DRM later, so get to buying.

I'll wait, no hurry here, when they are DRM free I will snap them up . . . =)
I lost all respect for Larian when they went for the pay-to-play patch here on GoG. I did download the game when it was at 50% off, but there is no respect for people who paid for the original copy of the game. I can treat them like they treated me which means I'm not buying ANY of the catalog they have.

Not to defend but . . . if you read bevinator's post above it may be that they haven't provided a 1.5 patch for retail yet simply because they can't??

Anyway, I will be buying their games once they are released DRM free, I find them to be lots of fun and didn't mind buying the GOG release to get the patch . . . =)

The only DRM-removal patch Larian have released publicly was for Beyond Divinity. As others have posted, the "DRM-free" patch for Divine Divinity requires purchase and there is no word of DRM-removal patches for their Dragon Knight Saga series (Divinity II and Flames of Vengeance).

That means they've only removed DRM for one out of 4 games released - not a great record in my view.
I think this will satisfy you. ;)

Actually going to make a new thread for this.

Simple advice: do not install it in case you don't want to ruin all the quests and map fixes made by previous 1.33 and 1.34 patches.
How do you activate widescreen mode?
Any resolutions supported by your monitor should show up in the download version configuration tool.

You can manually set the resolution, as well. See the description in the topic below.

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/divine_divinity_series/basic_buy_sell_repair_identify_window/post28

You can also manually set the resolution in the disk version of the game. The game itself should be fine, but depending on the system and resolution, opening the auto map in higher than supported resolutions may randomly (or consistently) cause the game to crash.
