Has anyone else played this game all the way through only to get to the end and find it impossible??? If you have experienced this, could you please share your experience??

I understand perhaps no one else has, but on the off chance just one of you out there has, I hope you'll share your experience with me. Suffering alone is so much worse than finding someone else who has shared the same thing.

Edit - my mistake, no tips needed.

I beg to differ: Nox is the best "Diablo like" game ever.

I could never get into Divine Divinity. My big thank you to the guy who gifted it to me here on GOG, thinking I would love it to death, I keep trying getting into it, but to no avail... and I really wanted to enjoy it, since someone gave it to me with the best of intentions. It's just that the first part alone is so boring and feels so much like a grind-fest chore, to me.

[EDIT] dat grammarz.

You can leave Aleroth and level up outside, which would make getting through the catacombs faster. If you get too far away and do any of the main plot quests that give you an invitation to the castle, though, any remaining open quests in Aleroth will be resolved without your help, so you would miss out on some quest experience.

OldFatGuy: I'm looking for others that shared this experience.
I don't think many people have had the same experience as you; lots have had initial trouble, but between simply leaving the fight until later or using one of the many suggestions (some of which make the fight extremely easy) virtually all were able to continue.

I died my first try, reloaded, changed my approach and won, just needing a restoration potion or two. I found the second encounter with Josephine trivial.

On the off chance that there might be one other soul on this planet that had the same trouble and is reading this, could you share your experience please?

I hope you do get a response. My comment was really not meant as an attack or criticism towards you or the idea of anyone chiming to discus their experience. I didn't mention my situation to emphasize it was easy for me, but to say that I had trouble (with the first encounter) and a change of approach helped. In retrospect, though, I can see where if you were frustrated to start with, my reply may have come off as insensitive, so I am sorry for that.

Heh, I just edited mine above because I thought mine was too snappy, then I read this one.

I too am sorry for any and all misunderstandings. Totally my fault. My frustrations are showing, and that's not fair to you, or anyone else. So FWIW, I'm sorry.

But I will say again, if anyone is reading this melodrama, please don't get lost in that. If you had the same thing happen to you, I'd love to hear from you. I wonder what character you played, what level you were when you got there, where you spent most of your skill points, etc. etc. So please, if anyone else out there had this same experience, share them here.
Well, maybe I won't try for my third and final time.

The game suddenly has some serious sound issues. I mean bad, it's like screeching or something. And it's happening frequently enough to make it unenjoyable for me.

I've still got the disc version laying around here, maybe I'll see if that will run on my Windows 7 machine and if so whether it produces such a sound problem.

Funny, I played the GOG version last time and never experienced this. I don't understand. I don't think I've updated sound drivers since then, so it should be the same drivers. Makes no sense, but it's definitely there. I tried to go in and change my sound quality to DVD quality, but it was already set on that, so that didn't help. I don't know what the hell is going on but I can't enjoy the game like this.

This is a common and well-known problem with the sound. You should set affinity to a single CPU core to prevent this problem from happening. Another possibility is playing DD on a native single-core CPU (like Pentium III or 1st gen Pentium IV up to 2.2[2.4?]GHz).

I've beaten the game, but I understand where you're coming from. I had a problem investing time and concentration to get past the first part. It took me a handful of attempts, but once I did, I was suddenly entranced by the rich environments, incredible music, and felt compelled to play the game every day until it was finished.

I reserved time to do this over the Christmas holidays three years ago. I don't want to put any spoilers out there, but I rate the game as highly as my experience with Fallout 1 and 2. I also much prefer it to any D&D Infinity Engine games.

Totally agree with NoX being the best "Diablo like" game ever. I bought it when it first came out and was totally obsessed with its multiplayer component, especially the co-op missions that were later included.

Yeah, I'm thinking that's what the problem is, but I've got a problem with "both" fixes.

1) Go to Task Manager, pull up the process, and change the affinity to a single core CPU. The only way this way show up in the processes, is if it's currently running. But everytime I run DD and Alt-Tab out (or just push the Windows button on the keyboard) and change the affinity, I get a popup saying I can't do it (something about permissions I think despite the fact this is my stand alone laptop and always has been) PLUS when Alt-Tabbing out, everytime I try to go back to the game it crashes.

2) Using "runfirst." According to the instructions I found, I needed to simply add this to the command line. But when I clicked on the icon, and changed the command line AS INSTRUCTED EXACTLY, then when I double click the icon it does nothing (except I presume runs runfirst.exe since that was the first exe. on the command line and div.exe was the second one. It never gets to the second one.

Should I make a batch file and enter those two separate lines?? Will this impace whatever GOG changes may have been done?

You don't need to use RunFirst unless you only have Windows XP, just make a batch file called div.bat and write this in it:

start /affinity 1 div.exe

I'm guessing I can't just put that in the command line for the icon, right?

Something like this "C:\GOG GAMES\DIVINITY\start/affinity 1 div.exe"

And am I seeing right that there is a space between affinity and 1?

ADDED IN EDIT: Nope, couldn't just change the target on the icon, that wouldn't work.

I'll see if I can remember how to make a batch file. (I think I did it.!!)

ADDED: Oh, I suppose what I could do is have the desktop icon point to the batch file, once I'm done.

Doh! I'm an idiot. Don't know why I didn't think of that first.

Here, I made one for you. Just save it to your Divine Divinity folder and you're good to go.
