Due to a mistake on my part from not having consulted a walkthrough, I read Richard's mind and thought I should turn down 50 gp/heart if I could sell them for more elsewhere later. Richard has since vanished from Broken Valley; I can't find him anywhere (indoors or out), so I can't even talk to him to see if I can reobtain the quest or get "Feast or Famine".

Does anyone know where he might be lurking, or if I can "clear the slate" and somehow respawn him?

He should be wandering around the area between Derk the blacksmith and the village wall. If he is not there, if you load a save in the Developer Mode version of the game you can use the cheat window (F11) to teleport NPCs to your location (or vise versa).

Mindreading Richard lets you challenge him on the price, and get more gold/experience per heart; nobody else will buy them.

Richard can take a trip to the nearby farm, but that would require that you turn in at least one heart, and then refuse his request after asking if he has any other jobs that need being done.

Actually, by using debug mode it turned out he'd moved down the valley. I couldn't get the goblin hearts quest, but was able to get "Feast or Famine.", so I'm satisfied for this playthrough.
