What the .... is this about? I don´t see any online games, cause I´m not connected to any online community. The pulldown menu in the multiplayer options is not accessible.

This was the last time I bought a game. Loading some cracked version will probably result in 0 errors.

Until very recently, GOG did not have any online infrastructure, so the online community is Steam only. With the release of GOG Galaxy, the game would need to be updated to add support; AFAIK that is unlikely for the current version, but likely for the Enhanced Edition, to be released later this year (free for anyone who owns the current version).

As stated on the game page, multiplayer is available via Direct Connection or LAN.

You can't 'crack' a DRM free game, and pirating games would only avoid issues caused by copy protection.

Do you know if there is a way to link this with a Steam Account? I guess one way would be buying this THROUGH steam but I'd rather play without multiplayer than submit to the tyranny of Steam. Also, what is AFAIK?

Thanks!

No, there isn't.

AFAIK = As Far As I Know
Alright well the game is perfectly enjoyable as it is. Thanks!

You can try to use Hamachi. In theory I think Hamachi could work between steam and gog versions also...
As it says up there, "multiplayer is available via Direct Connection or LAN"

so the answer should be a yes.

Is this the official line in regards to online community support via GoG Galaxy? I've been waiting to redeem my backer key until the GoG version has the full array of multiplayer options (which had initially been slated to arrive with Galaxy). I don't mind waiting a bit longer, but it'd be nice to know if the original version (i.e. not the Enhanced Edition) will never receive online community support. If that turns out to be the case, I will have to more seriously consider redeeming on Steam instead.

Any information is much appreciated.

Yes. Any further updates for D:OS are unlikely.
