I've just bought this game, it looks really great, but my cpu is going mad about it !
I don't know if there is a tweak to decrease cpu consumption, besides from manually set the core (CPU0 & CPU1) affinity inside the task manager...

I've lowered every possible options (graphics set on very low ; 640x480 res, ...etc) but as soon as I start the game, my cpu usage climbs up to ~70% and the fan blows so loud I can't even hear the game's music... what a joke.

I was so mad, I've uninstalled it right away and put Diablo II back on :)

No, but seriously, I would take any advice in order to make it "runnable". I want to play this game so bad.

Wow, have not heard of this problem with DD. I would first make sure my video drivers were the latest version. You can use a program called RunFirst to set affinity to a single core. I would try doing that manually first . . . if it doesn't help then there is no need to use RunFirst.

I have used the old config tool that came with the old DD game to set graphics to directdraw instead of direct3d. It can be downloaded here. Larian Studios / GOG does not support the use of the old tool but setting the game to direct draw has made the game playable on some systems ( fixes a mouse pointer lag usually ). You would put the config tool in the DD install directory and double click it, set it to use directdraw and start the game. It will either work or not.

Is your CPU an AMD?

Thanks for helping me again !
No, my CPU is an Intel GMA 3150 and it already has the latest drivers (as a matter fo fact, I've installed new ones yesterday).

But I've heard of this utility you're talking about on the Larian forums. Perhaps I should've installed the tool to change the graphic engine to DirectDraw (which is only for 2D, right ?) instead of Direct3D.

It's just that it's a pain in the a** now, having to re-download it again... Should have asked earlier.

Thanks anyway, I'll try the tool provided.

Re-download the game? I burn my game setup files to a CD / DVD . . . =)

I would try setting the game to direct draw. Sorry to hear you deleted both the game and the setup file . . =(

It takes some tweaking with most games but sometimes there are systems that refuse to run certain games.

Edit: Just saw this pop up in general discussion with this post running DD without a problem.

I know, it's stupid not having a backup copy of the installers, I rely to much on GOG ;) .
I'm planning to get them on a USB stick though, since CD/DVD are prohibited in my case...

I will try to find any other cases where DD is causing the problems you are having, let me know if the setting it to directdraw helps . . . good luck . . . =)
Yep, I'll definitely give it a try.

Kudos to you again !
