Some of the citizens of Rivertown are wandering around in the woods to the northeast of the town, with no rhyme or reason. Kistandalius, from Ars Magica, is quite a pace north of the town, but will still dispense potions and kick you out of his back room as though he were still in the building (and wandering trolls/orcs don't bother him in the woods). Ok, so that's fine.
Except that Tingalf is now missing from his post and he's rather crucial to several quests. I'm pretty sure he's subject to the same random wandering citizen bug but I can't seem to find him out in the woods anywhere where the others are wandering.
Ideas? Thanks.

It is common to find the citizens wondering outside of Rivertown, it does not affect the game play.

I realize that, but not like I'm describing. I'm talking about people sitting down in chairs to drink tea in the woods and merchants entirely out of place--pretending to be in their shops but they're far north of the town. It does effect gameplay in that one of the crucial questgivers is not in the place he's supposed to be (as indicated on that spoiler map) and I have not done anything in the quests to make him disappear yet. It's definitely a funny bug, not just random wandering citizens. He disappeared at the same time that Kistandalius disappeared from his shop and ended up north of the city in the woods.
On the start screen, check the lower right corner and make sure you are running the patched version of the game V1.005A.

Yep. It was really strange. The bug never resolved itself but I was able to work through it. I never turned Tingalf in (so he shouldn't have disappeared). Turns out I could still turn him in, which put him in jail and then I could resolve the other quests.

Finished the game...was really a lot of fun!

Glad you were able to finish. Sounds like you may have had a corrupted save. . . =)
