Seeing a lot of inventory bugs. Some items are going into wrong slots, and some items "disappear" when they are equipped - the only way to unequip them is to sell them.

Anyone encounter anything similar?

BD has some inventory bugs, they seem to go away if you run it in Windows 98 compatibility mode. Once the bug affects your inventory, setting it to Win 98 mode and starting a new game is the only way around it that I have heard. There is a thread here in this forum about it I believe.

I only played about 1/3 of the way through and sorta lost interest. I was playing as a warrior but I have played DD with great success as a survivor. That's about all I can tell you about BD . . . =)

Damn, you mean to say I gotta start the entire game over? That sucks... I guess I'll back up my file, start a new game, and find some cheats to generate items and see if the bug reoccurs.

Problem with Win 98 mode is that the sound start skipping...

If you have a multicore CPU, setting the affinity to a single core on SOME systems will help the sound problem, some it doesn't help at all.

You can do it manually by starting the game, ALT-TAB out of the game, open task manager (CTRL - ALT - DEL ), find the [game name].exe on the Processes tab, right click the exe and click Set affinity . . . on the resulting dialog. Un-check all but the CPU 0 check box. (See attached image) Close the task manager and play the game.

If this helps I suggest using RunFirst as it sets the affinity for the game without having to go thru the task manager process each time you play. If setting it manually doesn't help then there is no need to use RunFirst.

Edit: Yeah, starting over is a negative. I found discussion about the inventory problem and set BD to Win 98 at the start. I just find the voice acting, story and game play to be a disappointment. Can't bring myself to finish the game . . . =)

Thanks, I'll give the affinity setting a try. I did start over as I was still only in Act 1 (though possibly at the end for all I know, had just made it to the Battlegrounds for the first time through the key which was in plain sight.)

Now with the new game I just made it to the Battlegrounds using the key hidden in the locked chest.

Performance really seems to have suffered a lot with the Win 98 compatibility - parts of Battlegrounds are in slow motion on this C2D 1.3GHz laptop. I'll reduce the resolution to 800x600 to see if that helps...

I guess last resort option would be the memory-limiting workaround. Which would be a pain since I just disabled the virtual memory page file to extend the life of the laptop's SSD (which doesn't support TRIM.) Will have to turn it back on if I limit the RAM to 2 or 3 GB.

All right...

Affinity is already set to 1 CPU (probably by the Win 98 compatibility mode, or maybe by GOG tinkering).

Tried reducing memory to 3072 and 2048: didn't help.

Actually, turning affinity to both cores improved the framerates by 20-25%, so I'll try playing like that in 800x600 and see what happens.

Hopefully multiprocessing won't bring the inventory bugs back....

Good luck, BD is a little unpolished and still has several bugs. Hope you aren't disappointed with the game llike I was. . . .=)
