I'm pondering playing the beta, how complete is the game?

I.e. is the story all in and it's being polished/bug fixes/tuning or is it just partial at this point?

Only the first area of the game is in, about 20-25% of the content, roughly; the second and third act of the game are still being created. There will be updates to the first act, but no new areas will be added before release. It is relatively polished for an alpha, but there are still things to be added (companion dialogues, the crafting system is currently just the basics, etc).

There is an update going through QA now, with adjustments to how the attribute bonuses work, balancing changes and various tweaks and fixes (no ETA yet).

I backed and loved the first one so I backed this one too.

So it looks like the beta for this is so you guys can test out the gaming mechanics (and engine updates) without spoiling the main parts of the story.

What about the black cat?
At the beginning a black cat followed me but if I enter the prison of Fort Joy and came back, the black cat is gone.
Will this part be concluded with the next update?

does this mean the 2nd and 3rd acts(the rest of the game) be sold seperately? such as
expansions or dlc?

No; only act 1 is available now, but upon release it will update to the full game. The word act is being used in the story structure sense (beginning, middle, end), not to refer to episodic content, etc.

That post you just responded to alarmed me a bit there, was glad to have those concerns put to rest, don't want my favorite series to go the same route as Deus Ex, as Squeenix, just killed that series with their nickel and dime tactics!

And yes, I have only this game to complete my collection! I'd buy it now, but I don't do In Dev/Early Access titles.

Not very, there are several bugs still needing to get ironed out. There are alos many things people want to have fixed, like overview, camera etc.

You can play the first part and while there are bugs, it is a fun game, one that I fully support.
So far though, I hvae quest bugs, don't get the items they NPC's say they give me,. Sometimes a character can't act during combat etc.
Several small annoying thiungs that I woulnd't stand in a finished mode, yet in alpha? Hmm, can be tricky but still, fun. :)
