This was an issue in the original PC version, and it remains to be fixed. When the T-Rex roars there is no sound in both the first and second fights with him. He does however have his roar in the final cutscene where he appears and dies, so this is probably easy to fix.

I don't want to use mods to fix a basic thing like this.

sadly, you're going to have to since this is the original PC game with a DX Wrapper and the rebirth fixes pre applied. this is a common thing with older PC games running on newer hardware

This is something that GOG could easily fix. The sound effect is literally in the game.
No reason not to fix this extremely obvious bug when they're going so far as at to implement "Improved music playback and volume scaling" and "Improved item rendering and fogging". Speaking of improved music playback, the music doesn't loop properly and it gets killed off during loading screens, so I'm not sure what they improved here.

A T-rex that doesn't roar? That seems to be the real meaning of a 'Dino Crisis'

The fact that there is no music during door and ladder animations doesn't bother me personally, but the T-Rex missing roar should be fixed.

It's extremely annoying to have the music restart on every loading transition! And when the music loops improperly there's an audible pop. It's very scuffed stuff.
does the mod fix the missing T-rex audio though?

If you mean Classic REbirth, it rewrites the entire audio engine from scratch, so yes, the T-rex roars there.

sweet now I need to find a certain...file to make CRE work with the gog version...
Just saw 1.0 hotfix2 address this today. Very cool, GOG.
Yeah, great timing on the fix for me - I just finished the first game and am going to dive into the (waaaay better) sequel.

Thanks, GOG, for being on top of this.
