Hi,
Is there any way to use 3D acceleration in this game? I know the game supports it but probably not on all these modern graphic cards! I also noticed the option "enable 3D check" is missing from the options menu, so maybe it's on purpose in order to be compatible!
Thanks!
If you run the game in Windows 98 compatibility mode, you'll get a 3D acceleration prompt for 3dfx Glide, Direct3D, and software rendering.
However, if you do that, the game will probably crash. Strangely enough, Windows 2000 or XP compatibility mode works better for a game this old than Windows 98 compatibility mode despite the lack of 3D acceleration prompt.
You are indeed correct. Game starts up fine and I see that I have 3D characters (much smoother) but the screen is covered with black artifacts so I can't see what I'm doing :)!
Thanks for info. Didnt know there is a way to turn on 3D acceleration. Btw it works fine for me - no artifacts and other problems (GF 7900GS). This way game looks much better.

There doesn't seem to be that much difference between software mode and hardware acceleration in this? After switching to compatibility mode I get a box asking if I want to run in Direct 3D or software mode; I choose Direct 3D but can't really notice much of a difference between the two.
Unless I'm missing something.

Mmh; check out one of the many DBTS movies on Youtube. Some of them are using 3D acceleration. You can clearly see the difference between the pixelated software mode and the much smoother 3D mode!
I can clearly see the difference on my 20" LCD, textures are smoother and models look much better.

Oh, I have checked out the movies on YT, which is why I'm curious as to why my version looks so much worse. ;)
Good news! I have found a solution!
Simply download GLIDE WRAPPER from this website : http://www.zeckensack.de/glide/. Then set the game to 98 compatibility. When you launch it, you will now have the option to select 3DFX thanks to installing glidewrapper. The game should now look more smoothly :)
Maybe GoG.Team should add this software into the standard installation if they can get permission from the creator (it's freeware).
I've tried using the glide wrapper but i only get two or three runs of DBtS before the game fails to start up any further than the main menu. After that I have to uninstall and reinstall before it will work in 3d accelerated mode again.
when it is running though the difference is staggering, the wrapper I use gives it all the features of openGl my machine supports. :)
Hi, I've noticed that when you shut down DBTS (and are using Glidewrapper) that WINDIE.EXE doesn't exit itself! So be sure to go to TASKMANAGER and end the WINDIE.exe process. That should fix that!

Sadly not. I was already aware of that and kill it after I exit, i'm at a bit of a loss for why this happens. I may try using an alternative wrapper and see it that helps.
I changed the graphic mode back to software renderer when i discovered that after I quit and start the game again my saves are gone. The game sees savegames only in software mode...... strange. Do you have the same ?
not here. even after reinstall my openGL saves are still there.

This has something to do with running the game in "98 compatibility mode". You probably see users "Data, saves and moves" as well? Just perform a "new user" and add your playername, it will recognize that it has savegamse and show them to you. It should permanently store your old username under "98 mode" when it makes its next autosave.
Hope that helps
