Hello!

How often do shopkeepers reset their inventory? I know in D2+3 it's every time you go back to town, but when I do that Griswold still has the same stuff. Thanks for replying.
According to Jarulf's Guide, section 3.9 Item creation in town:

- Adria resets when you return from the dungeon or when you reload a single player game. [3.9.1]
- Griswold's basic (non-magical) items reset when you return from the dungeon or when you reload a single player game. [3.9.2]
- Griswold's premium (magical) items:
-- Replace on a one-for-one basis as you purchase them
-- Do not reset on returning from the dungeon
-- Do shift when you level up, so that the items offered remain within the allowable quality range. (Stop offering items that are now too low quality. Begin offering items that are newly allowed. Retain items that were allowed and still are allowed.) See [3.8] for full details on what is allowed.
- Pepin: same reset rules as Adria
- Wirt: renew on dungeon visit if you have bought his prior item; also renew if you level up to an even character level.

Jarulf's Guide can address many questions about gameplay mechanics, some of which are hard to discern from casual experimentation. I suggest saving a local copy of it. You're welcome to ask here instead of searching it, but some answers may make more sense viewed in the full context of the Guide's tables, which is why I gave section numbers in my answer above. For example, if you care about the details of allowable premium items, the Guide gives you the formulas that govern them and has item tables you can use to determine whether your ideal item is possible and, if it is, when Griswold is most likely to offer it to you. Those formulas also explain why some items can never be offered to you. The Guide can also tell you the best places to look for certain unique items; the range of values a given enchantment can take (e.g. "What's the best possible +resist on a Jade item?"; Answer: 30%, according to [3.4] Prefixes and suffixes); what enchantments are allowed on a given base type; on what dungeon levels a given monster would appear; how that monster will behave (does it advance quickly, advance slowly, circle the target, etc.); and what spells to use (or not use) against each monster type.
