Following up on this post as the issue continues to be present without any acknowledgement of the issue from the GoG team.
Pls devs let us know. It does really suck we need to know if there will be a fix for it on b.net. thx
At first I thought people did not know that you had to complete the game on Normal before being allowed to play on the higher difficulty levels, but if the game is not allowing you to play the higher difficutlry settings after beating Diablo then there is a pretty serious bug.

The fix shared on the freshmeat-blog forums works for me and my buddy. We played co-op in Nightmare difficulty all day long. Running Diablo classic version on Windows 10.

I unfortunately can’t share links on this account -.-

People don't know that because it's not actually true. :) You don't need to ever beat The Dark Lord to advance to higher difficulty levels. You only need to meet the character level requirement.

Not really the game. B.net avatars don't update. Back in the OG B.net days your avatar portrait would show your level, what character you were and a red dot for each difficulty completed. Once all three were done your avatar portrait turned gold. But, on the GoG Global gateway everyone shows up at a level 1 warrior regardless of what level you are. So you can't join nightmare or hell diff games because b.net thinks you're level 1

I'll try it, thanks!
Remember everyone that is watching this post to go here on the B-net forums and post about the problem so they will fix it.

Replace (dot) with a . and post any information that might help them solve the issue.
Only hope we have is for GOG to fix this. Blizzard are useless when it comes to Technical Support
I figured something was wrong since it always showed me as level 1 in the battle.net lobby. This is a pretty big issue and I hope people at GOG are at least aware of it from reading the forums here.

This is not a FIX. It's just hacking. It's no different than townkill, duping, or running a bot. It violates EULA and TOS. And this is like the other guy saying "just play private IPX games on hamachi". No. We want battle.net to work like its supposed to- like the GOG page says it does. Not some third-party loophole cheat that is not accessible to the masses. The whole point of b.net is to be integrated and streamlined.

Edit: Removed off-topic subject matter.
